Silken strands of golden curls
Fall through fingers in delicate swirls.
Satin ribbon the same dark hue
Of her eyes, the deepest blue.
Ringlets gathered and put in place
'Round the cream skinned perfect face.

Today's the day, she tells herself
When all her woes she'll place on a shelf.
With a heart as pure as a white winged dove
She dreams of her one true love.
The letter is sent, she's ready to wed
Wife to his life, his home, his bed.

So long they have waited to become one
Everyday their love grows so strong.
He's away at war now, but soon to be home
She will no longer be alone.
She waits patiently for him to come
To save her from a life so numb.

Days crawl by, stretch into weeks
Salty tears stain her soft creamy cheeks.

Eyes of Deepest Blue
by Brandy Todd
No letter has returned, no answered she's heard
She shuts herself away, solitude is preferred.
Then the letter arrives that seals her fate.
Her lifeless love was found, the words did state.

Her heart wouldn't feel the words so true
She tied her curls with a ribbon of blue.
The letter had lied, her love still lived.
No death would take her precious gift.
For days she sat and only dreamed
How his eyes had always beamed.

How thin she grew, how pale and sick
But her curls she groomed, her locks so thick.
Not a morsel she put to her lips
Her mind would wander on fantastic trips.
Her love would come save her, carry her away
In his arms she finally would lay.

The day came to pass when her dreams came true.
She closed her eyes of deepest blue.
He sat astride his horse of white
There he was, her valiant knight.
He'd come atlast to take her away.
In death together they forever would stay.
