1997: picked up first collegiate save 2/26 vs. Jacksonville State...worked 3.1 innings of no-hit relief to get his first win 3/23 vs. Wake Forest...pitched a scoreless inning of relief on five other occasions...ERA suffered after being touched up for eight runs, including three consecutive homers 5/7 vs. Georgia Southern...spent summer pitching for Lima Locos of the Great Lakes League.
High School: Versatile athlete who received Division I scholarship offers for basketball...chose to play baseball in college despite devoting most of his time in high school to basketball...36th round draft choice by the Cleveland Indians after pitching in just seven games as a senior due to a back injury (3-2, 3.30 ERA, 50 strikeouts in 29.2 innings)...went 4-1 in just six games as a junior, posting one save, a 1.44 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 34 innings...earned all-city honors in both basketball and baseball, and honorable mention all-state honors in basketball..scored 52 points in a game to tie a school record, and led all of Chattanooga in scoring in 1995...selected by USA Today as a 1996 Honorable Mention All-America in baseball...high-school teammate of Tech outfielder Jahmal Overton.
