The Yellow Jackets established a new school record with their 12th straight win in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Tech's 12-game overall win streak is the second longest active streak in the nation.
Tech remains in second place in the ACC standings, percentage points behind league-leader Virginia. But the Yellow Jackets still control their own fate in the conference race by virtue of having fewer losses than the Cavaliers.
Kown (8-1) improved to 7-0 in his last 11 starts after holding the Tigers to one run on six hits in eight innings. He struck out nine batters, a personal high against ACC opponents, and issued just one walk while allowing just four runners to advance past first base.
Boggs finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. Clifton Remole had three hits and Andy Hawranick added three RBI. The Yellow Jackets scored 11 runs despite the first four hitters in the batting order going a combined 0-for-14.
Tech broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the fourth inning. The Yellow Jackets had just two hits in the inning - a two run single from Andy Hawranick and an RBI single from Clifton Remole - but were aided by two walks, a hit batter, three wild pitches and an error from Clemson.
The Yellow Jackets added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning when right fielder Kris Harvey dropped a fly ball that allowed Hawranick and Tyler Greene to score with two outs.
Clemson's Tyler Colvin broke up the shutout with his first career home run, a solo shot in the top of the seventh that made the score 7-1. Colvin finished the afternoon a perfect 4-for-4.
Boggs singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hawranick extended the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Boggs hit a three-run homer, his seventh of the season and his second in as many days, in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 11-1.
The Tigers rallied for two runs off the Tech bullpen in the ninth inning to provide the final 11-3 margin. Andy D'Alessio hit a solo home run, his third of the year, and pinch hitter Brady Everett drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Freshman reliever Ryan Turner worked out of the jam by inducing a double play and a groundout to end the game.
Clemson starter Robert Rohrbaugh (4-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in three-plus innings. Patrick Hogan pitched the final six innings of the game and allowed eight runs on six hits.
Georgia Tech and Clemson will conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
