Wyatt home run lifts Georgia to 5-3 victory, berth in CWS

ATLANTA -- Jonathan Wyatt hit a two-run homer in the eighth - the first of his freshman season - as Georgia rallied past Georgia Tech 5-3 to sweep the NCAA super regional at Russ Chandler Stadium.

With the win, Georgia (43-21) advanced to the College World Series for the second time in four years and for the fourth time overall.

Senior right-hander Brian Burks, working in relief of starter Andrew Kown, took the loss for Georgia Tech (44-21).

"To start off the game, they were throwing me a lot of fastballs," Wyatt noted. "The last at-bat, I was looking for a fastball in, and I got it."

"I made a mistake and he took advantage of it," said Burks. "It was a fastball up. He (umpire) didn't call a low strike the pitch before so i tried to get it up a little bit."

Mike Trapani's two-run double in the fifth inning off Georgia starter Sean Ruthven gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead, but Georgia responded with two runs each in the seventh and eighth to complete their comeback.

Ruthven retired the first 11 batters and had a no-hitter heading into the fifth, with Georgia leading 1-0. He walked Clifton Remole to start the inning, then an out later, Whit Robbins also walked. After Tyler Greene flied out to right, Trapani lined a double over the outstretched glove of right fielder Joey Side.

"I credit Georgia a lot," said Tech head coach Danny Hall. "They played good, made the plays when they had to and got hits when they had to. As it usually happens, somebody that you least expect comes up big for them and Wyatt was great for them today and give him credit on his huge homerun."
