TECH WINS SECOND STRAIGHT AT FLORIDA STATE 10-4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Michael Fisher had three his Matt Wieters drove in three runs as No. 8 Georgia Tech (31-9, 12-8 ACC) won its second straight game at No. 5 Florida State (33-9, 13-7), 10-4, in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets won their fifth straight game on the Seminoles' home field, and Tech has won 12 of the last 14 meetings since the 2004 season.

Tim Ladd (4-2) earned the win out of the bullpen and did not allow an earned run in 5.1 innings. He held the Seminoles to one unearned run on four hits and struck out five batters to earn his second win in as many relief appearances.

Fisher went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Wieters had three RBI on a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. Steven Blackwood drove in two runs and Jeff Kindel had two hits.

Florida State starter Tyler Chambliss (9-2) took the loss after allowing a career-high seven runs, only four of which were earned, in six innings.

The Seminoles allowed double-digit runs for the second straight game after not allowing an opponent to top 10 runs in their first 40 games of the season. Georgia Tech scored 25 runs in the first two games of the series.

Florida State committed a season-high four errors.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Fisher and Danny Payne had one-out singles, Blackwood followed with an RBI single and Matt Wieters added a sacrifice fly.

The Seminoles answered in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Strauss singled and scored one a two-out RBI single from Dennis Guinn to make the score 2-1.

Florida State added two runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Buster Posey led off the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the year, and after a pair of walks, Shane Robinson had a two-out RBI single.

Georgia Tech scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. A single, walk and error loaded the bases with no outs before Payne delivered an RBI groundout that tied the game at 3-3. Chambliss nearly worked out of the jam by retiring Blackwood for the second out of the inning, but Wieters delivered a two-out, two-run double to stake the Yellow Jackets to a two-run lead.

The Jackets added two runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 7-3. Tech loaded the bases with one out on a walk, single and hit batter, and Fisher followed with an RBI single. Blackwood drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to drive in the second run of the inning.

After Florida State scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 7-4, Georgia Tech added three unearned runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 10-4. After the first two batters of the inning were quickly retired, Guinn committed an error at first base that opened the floodgates, including an RBI single from Mike Trapani and an RBI double from Fisher.

Florida State head coach Mike Martin and assistant coach Mike Martin, Jr. were ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Georgia Tech and Florida State will conclude the series later Sunday.
