Derek Dietrich and Jason Haniger collected three hits apiece to lead the Yellow Jackets’ offense in the second game of the day, with five of the six hits between the two going for extra bases. Dietrich went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single while Haniger had a triple and two doubles in the game.
After yielding a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning, Tech starter Eddie Burns (4-1) held the Eagles' hitters at bay, facing just two over the minimum over the next five innings. The 6-foot-8 righty gave up just the two first-inning runs, only one of which was earned, on seven hits. He also fanned seven to pick up his fourth win of the season.
Jeff Rowland led off the game with a single, stole second base, moved to third when Charlie Blackmon reached on a fielding error. Rowland then scored on a double steal for the first run of the game. Dietrich pushed Tech’s lead to 2-0 with an RBI double to plate Blackmon.
The score remained tied at 2-2 until the Yellow Jackets broke the game open in the seventh, scoring seven runs on five walks and three extra-base hits. Haniger reached on a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Blackmon. Rowland, Thomas Nichols and Dietrich all reached on walks and scored on Feltes' sixth home run of the season before Haniger capped the scoring with a two-run double.
Boston College starter Dan Houston did not figure into the decision, leaving after six strong innings. Kurt Hayer (0-1), one of four pitchers for the Eagles in the seventh inning, took the loss after giving up three runs on one hit. He also walked two before being lifted.
Feltes' second home run of the game gave the Jackets a 12-2 lead in the eighth inning and Tech scored its final run in the ninth off back-to-back doubles from Haniger and Rowland.
Feltes, Rowland and Luke Murton all finished with two hits in the game.
The Jackets and Eagles will conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
