2001: Spent entire campaign with Class AA Portland. 2000: Endured injury-plagued season....Initially assigned to Class AA Portland Sea Dogs (Eastern League)....hit first home run 4/16 vs. Norwich....sidelined by inflamed throwing shoulder 4/20....placed on disabled list with partial tear of the right rotator cuff 5/3....returned to action in pinch-hitting and designated hitter role with Class A Brevard County 6/5....activated from disabled list by Portland 6/12....returned to Brevard County 7/24....placed on disabled list for remainder of the season 8/3 after being struck in the eye by a foul ball while batting....assigned to winter ball in Australia only to suffer broken bone in wrist. 1999: Assigned to Class A Brevard County (Florida State League)....started season with two hitless games before breaking loose by going 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBI 4/10 vs. Fort Myers....went 3-for-5 with first home run while tying a team-record with five RBI 4/12 vs. Fort Myers....was 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, another home run and four more RBI 4/13 at Port Charlotte....overall, drove in 15 runs during six game stretch 4/10-4/15....tied team record with three doubles 6/10 at St. Lucie....named the Florida State League's Player of the Week for June 7-13 after hitting .542 (13-for-24) with seven runs scored, eight doubles, a homer, seven RBI, and a 1.000 slugging percentage during the period....overall, hit safely in 11 straight games (19-for-40, seven doubles, one triple, one homer, 10 RBI) leading into FSL All-Star Break 6/17. 1998: Signed professional contract after being selected by the Florida Marlins in the fourth round of the June Draft....assigned to Class A Utica of the New York-Penn League....made professional debut 6/16 vs. Auburn going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI...hit first professional home run 6/20 vs. Watertown....hit two home runs 7/21 vs. Williamsport.
Tech Career: 1997: Stepped in to start every game at either shortstop or third base. His .345 batting average ranked second on the ballclub while his .446 average against ACC opponents was second only to Florida State's J.D. Drew...struggled through 1-for-17 start to season...became an 9-for-55 slump before going to contact lens to correct astigmatism...proceeded to deliver back-to-back three-hit games March 8-9 at North Carolina...added three more hits 3/21 vs. Wake Forest...drove in winning run in the bottom of the ninth 3/23 vs. Wake Forest to cap yet another three-hit game...posted 14-game hitting streak (26-for-53, 15 RBI) from 3/8 to 3/28...after streak was stopped, started another five-game streak...went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI 4/15 vs. Georgia...was 4-for-5 with a grand slam as well as 10th-inning game-winning single 4/20 vs. Florida State...turned in four hit, five RBI effort 4/26 at Clemson...posted another 4-for-5 5/2 at Duke...went 5-for-5 with a bases loaded triple vs. Georgia Southern 5/6...overall, collected 23 multiple-hit games.
