THE BLITZ KIDS LEIGH BOWERY
BY BAMBER DELVER
LEIGH AND BAMBER IN 1987
I met Leigh Bowery in the autumn of 1987. Making an appointment with him was no problem.  Since I saw his pic while visiting a friend in London I knew that I just had to meet this guy. Never had I met such originality and creativity in my life. Leigh Bowery was, for me, the next Baron von Muchhausen meets Salvador Dali. Fun. Great. Lively. Art on the street, in videoclips, on stage, in the clubs. In my interview, published in lots of Dutch and foreign magazines like the German Maenner Aktuell and the Australian Campaign, newspapers and even a book on gay life in the 80's, I wrote this:
>Bowery installs himself on his balcony. He promised to wave at me, to prevent getting lost among the almost identical flats of this drab London district. Far away, on one of the highest flats a silvery-green figures shuffles into view. There is no doubt about it: this must be Leigh Bowery. As the photographer and I approach his flat he acts as a lighthouse, guiding his visitors in. In the elevator a neighbour smiles a grin: 'So you are looking for the freak, eh?'< The whole article you find on www.bamberdelver.nl
BAMBER DELVER IN THE 80S
I met him in the 1987's, I think... it's in the article on the web. He was great, it was one of the events of my life: meeting such a creative man. I have been writing about him ever since, and advised Robert Violette on his photobook on Leigh. I went to the musical Taboo too! I've got friends in London, so that was ever so nice but strange... seeing another guy wearing Leigh's makeup and clothing (Boy George is playing him these months), I included a pic, I wore this going out, tribute to Leigh Bowery
