Lesson # 8

TWO GOSPELS

In lesson # 7 we should have learned:
  1. That Paul was converted on the road to Damascus where he was going to persecute followers of Christ.
  2. Than Ananias hesitated to go to Paul because he feared what might happen to him.
  3. That Paul joined forces with Barnabus and they began to spread the gospel.
  4. That the gospel they were teaching differed from that of Peter and the apostles called by Jesus.
  5. List the differences in the message preached by Peter and the message preached by Paul.

Both Peter and Paul were doing what they had been instructed to do. If Peter HAD NOT preached repent and be baptized for the remission of sins he would have been out of the will of God. On the other hand, if Paul had preached repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, he would have been out of the will of God.

There are definitely two gospels being preached, but there should be no confusion – IF WE RIGHTLY DIVIDED THE WORD OF TRUTH.

Inheritance is the key word to better understand that that is happening. One group, the circumcised, had been promised throughout the Old Testament they would live and reign with Messiah ON EARTH. The other group, the uncircumcised were being told their inheritance was heavenly.

Both groups were saved by faith, believing God and doing just as He commanded. The circumcised were to believe and do a work – be baptized for remission of sins, looking forward to a day when their sins would be blotted out forever. (Acts 2: 28; 3: 19)

  1. The uncircumcised were to believe and do no works, for Jesus Christ did the work that was necessary for their sins being blotted out – He died and shed His blood.
"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being NOW justified BY HIS BLOOD, we shall be saved from the wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by THE DEATH OF HIS SON, much more being reconciled; we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE ATONEMENT" Romans 5: 8-11

2.        The Circumcision were to believe and do works. (Repent and be baptized.)

You need to understand that Galatians 2: 7-9 it is not one message that Peter preached it to the Jews and Paul preached it to the Gentiles. That is what most people teach today. Let me explain what I believe we see here. (You must decided if what I see is in fact truth or not)

  1. )There is only one way to be saved today but at the time Paul wrote Galatians there were two gospels being preached – one to the Jews and one to the Gentiles
  2. )There is only one Savior, but there are two different relationships with Him:
    1. One group will live with Him on earth where He will be their King.
    2. The other group will be living in Heaven with Him as the head of a body of believers.

When the end of the world comes, that is the world, as we know it today, this is what you will find: (Go to the Time Chart and look at the far right)

  1. God's Throne – far above all heavens.
  2. The New Jerusalem.
  3. Earth.
  4. The Lake of Fire.

Who will be living in each of these locations?

  1. God, Jesus, Christ the head of the body, the Holy Spirit, Angels and the Church the Body of Christ.
  2. Jesus, Christ the King, and the twelve tribes of Israel.
  3. Gentiles.
  4. The lost, or unsaved.

Review Questions:

  1. Who was commissioned to go to the Jews?
  2. Who was commissioned to go to the Gentiles?
  3. What verse of Scripture spells the above out for you?
  4. Where will eternity be for the Jews, heaven or earth?
  5. Where will eternity be for the Gentiles?
  6. What was the gospel of Peter?
  7. What is the gospel of Paul?
