Born Sept. 1, 1943, in Paris, Miss.,
she was the daughter of Luther Alson and Willie Viola Crow Davis.
She was married April 18, 1970, in Logansport, to James Weiland
Oaks, who preceded in death Aug. 9, 1997.
Mrs. Oaks worked in administration
for Ivy Tech Community College, Logansport Campus.
Alene attended Fulton Baptist Temple
Church and was an avid walker. She enjoyed traveling, gardening,
going to plays and reunions, and spending time with family and
friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Misty
Moss and her husband, Tim, Logansport, and Janie Stern and her
husband, Michael, Cleveland, Ohio; her mother, Willie Hedrick,
Logansport; four grandchildren, Stephen Moss, Chicago, Amber
Moss, Logansport, and Tyler Stern and Mikaylah Stern, both of
Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Lillian Fowler and her husband,
James, Lewisburg; and three brothers, Odis Davis, Logansport,
and Luther Alvis Davis and Jim H. Davis, both of Lawrenceburg.
Two brothers preceded in death.
The Rev. Bruce Russell will officiate
at the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
Friday in Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before the time of
services Saturday in the church.

Injuries fatal to pedistrian
A Logansport woman struck by a vehicle while
walking across a street Tuesday evening has died of her injuries.
Alene D. Oaks, 62, was died at 2:04 p.m. Wednesday
in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Oaks was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Tuesday
evening as she walked across Roselawn Drive. Glare from the sun
is believed to be the reason Matthew K. Gaumer, 23, Logansport,
did not see Oaks when he was turning south onto Roselawn from
High Street.
Oaks was unconscious when authorities arrived.
She was transferred to Logansport Memorial Hospital before being
flown via Good Samaritan helicopter to the Fort Wayne hospital.
Police said that no charges will be filed against
Gaumer.(1-5-07)

Rose was the daughter of James W. and Anna L. Wilson Davis.
On May 31, 1965, she was married to Robert Joseph Freidline,
who survives.
Rose belonged
to the Embroidery Guild of America, Sagamore Ridge Chapter; American
Needle Point Guild, Hoosier Heartland Chapter; and the New Life
Alliance Church.
A 1960 graduate
of Logansport High School, she was a 1964 graduate of Ball State
University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
The former owner and operator of Twin Rivers Medical Laboratory,
she was also retired from the Logansport State Hospital.
Also surviving
are two daughters, Molly Freidline and Sheri Freidline; one son,
Ted J. Freidline; four grandchildren, Daniel Benn, Lindsey Benn,
Lily Walters and Joseph Freidline; and two brothers, James W.
Davis and John A. Davis. She was preceded in death by one
brother, Franklin D. Davis; and one sister, Margaret E. Hoover.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Alliance Church.
Services will
be held at: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4th in New Life Alliance
Church, 3529 High St. Rd., Logansport. Pastor Fred Drye
will officiate the services. Visitation times are: 4 to
8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3rd in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Burial
will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

in her residence.
She was born June 29, 1942, in
Logansport, to Louis and Mary Middleton Emmerd.
She lived in Warsaw and Bourbon
before moving to Pendleton in 1978. She was a registered nurse
and retired from the Madison County Health Department in 1998,
after several years of service in immunization and data entry.
Previously she was the service director for Americana Nursing
Home, Anderson, and a nurse at Murphy Hospital, Warsaw. She
graduated from Logansport High School in 1960, and from Ball
State University School of Nursing.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen
Rhodes, Warsaw; a sister, Mary Ann Randall, Plainfield; and a
brother, John Emmerd, Westfield, Michigan.
A memorial service will be at 4
p.m. Friday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral
Service and Crematory, Bright Chapel, Pendleton.
Calling is one hour prior to the
service Friday at the funeral home.

Born May 13, 1941, in Logansport, she
was the daughter of Keith Marshal Long and Betty Ross (Osborne)
Long. She was married Oct. 19, 1963, in Logansport to Gerald
Jerry Baldini, who survives.
A homemaker, Susie was a 1960 graduate
of Logansport High School. She volunteered for many years
at Millers Merry Manor and for the Cass County Chapter
of the American Red Cross, where she had been a former board
member.
She was a member of the Logansport Elkettes
and Alpha Mu Chapter Tri Kappa Sorority. She enjoyed spending
time with her grandchildren and their activites.
In addition to her husband, she is survived
by two sons, Anthony Baldini, Logansport, and Bradley Baldini,
Indianapolis; two daughters, Jennifer (Mike) Curran, Speedway,
and Angie Baldini, Logansport; one sister, Tami (Hal) Brooks,
Rochester; brother-in-law, Donald Baldini, Logansport; five grandchildren,
Garrett Baldini and Madison Baldini, Jacob, Joseph and Nicholas
Curran; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Charles Azbell will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

from St. Joseph's College in Rennselear in l964 with a business
degree.
He worked and lived in the Chicago
area and was married to Elizabeth Wilkens in October, l970.
He is survived by his wife and
three children - John of Chicago, Suzanne of Los Angeles and
Gerianne of Dallas.
John retired in l998 as chief financial
officer for a financial institution, but pursued his interest
in race horses and continued to oversee the management of his
stable of horses until his sudden death from a heart attack on
March 3, 2000.
Burial was in Chicago.

Services for Charles M. Meade, 65, Flora, will be held
at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Flora First Christian Church.
He
passed away at 7:15 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Medical Center,
Lafayette.
Born
Feb. 7, 1942, in Frankfort, he was the son of Charley M. Sr.
and Tochie Louise Wallace Meade. On Dec. 31, 1991, he was married
at Pats Country Barn in Flora to Patricia J. Wagoner, who
survives.
After
attending Carrollton and Flora schools, he graduated from Logansport
High School in 1960. He had farmed in Carrollton township several
years and worked at Mann Chevrolet in Flora as a salesman. He
also had worked on appliances for Charlie & Pats Repairs
in Flora and helped cater at Pats Country Barn in Flora.
He
was a member of the Flora First Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ). Mr. Meade also was a member of the Carroll County Economic
Development Commission, Rotary International, Kiwanis, Old Settlers,
Carroll County Antique Tractor and Machinery Club, Carroll County
YMCA, Flora Community Club, John Purdue Club and the Purdue Club
of Carroll County.
He
was also a 4-H leader, and he was past president of the Flora
Little League, Carroll County Fair and Extension Board, Flora
Community Club, Carroll County Historical Society, Carroll County
YMCA and past board member of Prophetstown.
Mr.
Meade enjoyed collecting antique toys and tractors. He was an
avid sports fan following the Colts and Purdue sports. He had
played football, baseball and basketball while at Logansport
High School.
He
is survived by two sons, Chris Meade and wife, Michelle, and
Craig Meade, all of Flora; two stepdaughters, Petra Carter and
husband, Duane, Indianapolis, and Polly Prather and husband,
Marty, West Lafayette; one sister, Patty Maiben and husband,
Tim, Bunker Hill; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wagoner and husband,
Dr. Gordon, Flora; two grandchildren, Chase and Codey Meade,
Flora; and three stepgrandchildren, Emilee Delaplane, and Eli
and Ben Prather.
Pastors
Al Grumbling and Sam Davenport will officiate. Burial will be
in Maple Lawn Cemetery.

Col. James E. Pierce, Feb. 24, 1942 - March 22, 2006.
Jim Pierce was born in Logansport,
Ind., on Feb. 24, 1942. After a hard-fought battle with
ALS, and while surrounded by family, he died at his home in Grand
Junction, Colo., on March 22, 2006.
Jim received his bachelor's degree
in education from Purdue University and his master's degree from
Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. As a
career officer in the Air Force, he served in Vietnam, where
he was awarded the Bronze Star. His military service took
him to Louisiana, Germany, Oklahoma, Alaska, Florida, and Japan.
After retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1993, he began
a second career as a guidance counselor at Crestview High School
in Crestview, Fla. He retired from Crestview High in 2004.
For all those years, Jim actively served in his local church,
where he used his spiritual gift to teach Sunday school and sing
in the choir.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, James D. and Harriet C. Pierce; his infant brother,
John Robert Pierce; and by his beloved father and mother-in-law,
Warren Adam and Jimmie Gray Baillio of Dry Prong, La.
He is survived by his wife, Mary
Lou Pierce; and two sons, Rob and wife Kate Pierce, and Sean
and wife Heather Pierce. He is also survived by two grandchildren,
Colton Garrett Pierce and Bern Gray Pierce, who brought him great
joy. He also touched the lives of many friends in Louisiana,
Florida, and Colorado.

School, and a 1962 graduate of Indiana Business College of Logansport,
Mrs. Hartz was a retired office worker for Mer-Dels Quality
Foods.
She was a member of Wheatland Avenue
United Methodist Church.
Bonnie enjoyed spending time with
her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Julie
Sink and her husband, Ron, Logansport; one son, Stewart A. Hartz
and his wife, Sara, Aurora, Ill.; three sisters, Betty Wilson
and Doris Joan Ranke, both of Burrows, and Carolyn Sue Minnick-Paul
and her husband, Rev. Charles, Muncie; mother-in-law, Ruth Hartz,

Born Jan. 5, 1941, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Elwood
A. and Margaret Cooper Ranke. She was married on Oct. 1, 1967,
in Logansport, to Nick Zelinsky, who survives.
Mrs. Zelinsky was a bookkeeper at Wal-Mart and worked in the
accounting department at IBP. She had worked at Todd's Appliances
for 17 years and The Gray Mill for 18 years. She also had served
as treasurer of the Market Street United Methodist Church for
five years.
She was a 1960 graduate of Logansport High School and attended
Indiana Business College.
She was a member of Cross-Wind United Methodist Church, Veterans
of Foreign Wars and Eagles ladies auxiliaries.
Also surviving are two daughters, Christina L. Carlson and her
husband, Aaron J., Logansport, and Jennifer L. Zelinsky, Logansport;
one brother, Jack Ranke, Logansport; four sisters, Betty Wilson,
Doris J. Ranke and her twin sister Bonnie L. Hartz, all of Burrows,
and Carolyn S. Minnick, Muncie; three grandsons, Jerry Beaupre,
Tylor Beaupre and Robert Carlson; and one granddaughter, Haley
Carlson.
The Rev. Chip Gast of Cross-Wind United Methodist Church will

Park, Cass County.

sent this additional information to be shared: I have some information for
you about the cause of death. She was having problems with her
leg for over a year and a blood clot formed and broke finally
and blocked her pulmonary artery. The cause of death was Pulmonary
artery Thromboembolus. I want people to know what happened
since they were nice enough to think of mom by sending flowers.
I know my mom was looking forward to the class reunion, and seeing
all her old friends. Thank you again for all your prayers.

Schache was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service.
He
was a member of Greenwood Christian Church, the American Legion
in Greenfield and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

sister, Shirley Kistler, and her husband, George, Logansport;

1961 to 1965, he served as a United States Air Force fireman.

Roberta was a graduate of the University
of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She taught English for 22 years
at Girls Preparatory School.
She is survived by her husband
of 43 years, James A. Ward; her daughter and son-in-law, Anne
Elizabeth Ward and Thomas A. Chambers; grandsons, Theodore and
Henry; sisters, Geraldine Sattler (Robert) and Kathy Bookwalter
(Dale); brother, Patrick Shannon (Sue); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Robert and Sylvia Shannon; and her granddaughter, Virginia
Ward Chambers.

Springs, Fla., formerly of Logansport, passed away after a long
illness on Sunday, Jan. 27 2008.
Mike
was a graduate of Logansport High School, class of 1960. He was
active in choir and was part of the cast of the senior class
play, The Man Who Came To Dinner. After graduating
he was in the cast of several Logansport Civic Players productions
including South Pacific.
For
the past several years Mike had been living in retirement in
Tarpon Springs.
He
is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Chad; and his sister,
Sandra Blume.
His
parents, Robert and Mary Louise Strahle, preceded him in death.
His
father was a long-time locomotive engineer with the Pennsylvania
Railroad.
According
to the family, internment will be at an undisclosed location.

director of operations with Hardee's for 28 years. Surviving
are his wife, Mary; two sons, David of Dayton, Ohio, and Joe
of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Jane Lewis of Fort Wayne; two brothers,
Richard of Cincinnati and William of Logansport; two sisters,
Jeananne Hedelius of Indianapolis and Donna Wharton of Anderson;
and seven grandchildren. A daughter, Margaret, died in 1965.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven. Calling one hour
before services. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at D.O.
McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest
Road. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to Parkview Home
