Between 23rd January and 14th April 2001 Gary starred alongside Charles Lawson and James Gaddas in the award-winning comedy, Art, at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London.
Written by Yasmina Reza, Art centres on three friends and what happens when one of them buys a piece of modern art - a canvas covered in white paint. The question is, “is it Art?” Of course, Serge (Gary Kemp) thinks so. After all, he’s just paid a small fortune for it. His friend Marc (Charles Lawson), on the other hand, strongly disagrees. He reckons that the painting is bogus and that Serge has been conned, but Serge feels that having such an opinion only shows how much Marc is ignorant of modern art. Another friend, Ivan (James Gaddas), is drawn into the fray, and soon the argument grows personal as each of them harps back to old differences. |
