| The questionnaire Gary Kemp Rosanna Greenstreet Guardian Unlimited Saturday March 31, 2001 Gary Kemp, 41, grew up in north London. His father was a printer, his mother a dinner lady. At 11, he won a grammar school place. He started touring pubs with a band at 14, and five years later formed Spandau Ballet with his brother, Martin. Gary wrote lyrics and music, and the band were together for 10 years. In 1990, the brothers starred in the film The Krays. Gary is appearing in Art at Wyndham's Theatre, London, until April 14. He has a son by his former wife, Sadie Frost. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Standing on top of a mountain with Finlay, my son. What is your greatest fear? Currently, it's drying on stage, but as a parent, the fear for your child's health overrides any other. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? My public displays of overenthusiasm, and trying to speak before others have finished. What has been your most embarrassing moment? The other night, performing in Art, I realised that my flies had been undone for quite a while. Wondered why they were laughing so hard. What makes you depressed? Daytime television. What is your greatest extravagance? A rare chair from 1870. A treat after I won a court case. Good for writing future songs in. What do you most dislike about your appearance? I've always had a battle with my receding hairline. I've recently given in to my genes. What is your favourite fantasy? To see an electric guitar on Top Of The Pops. Should the royal family be scrapped? They're already on their way out ? the sooner the better. Do you believe in capital punishment? Of course not! Do you believe in monogamy? That depends who you're with. What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Self love - now seen as a modern virtue! Have you ever said 'I love you' and not meant it? Never. It's a word too easily said, and where do you go from there? What is your greatest regret? Not going to university. I'd love the process and experience. How often do you have sex? Whenever I'm alone.
