Mom's
Refrigerator Door

Jeri gave me a CD entitled Mom's Refrigerator Door for Christmas. It was of all the music she's been writing and arranging at school (her arrangement of Never Never Land is amazing--played by a 35 piece orchestra!) this past year. The name came, of course, from the fact that Moms always hang their kids' stuff on the fridge door.

It's been awhile since I had kids' artwork hanging on the door, but I have a lot of other junk and I thought it might be fun to use The Left Column as a place to put pix and stories of the things on my refrigerator door. It may be amusing only to me, but it will at least keep the graphics changing from day to day....

I took a personality test at The Spark today. I found out I'm

THE HELPER WHO FINDS MISSING CHILDREN OVER THE INTERNET
(Submissive Introvert Concrete Feeler )

Like just 11% of the population you are a HELPER WHO FINDS MISSING CHILDREN OVER THE INTERNET (SICF). You are very tentative in the world and introverted with people--which means you are the shy and silent type. Hence the Internet. But behind
your reserved exterior lies a dedicated person with a passion for
the concrete truth who wants to, in his heart of hearts, help find missing children. God bless you.

And then just to be silly, I had to check out Smiley Land. I wish Paul were around to send it to. He'd have hated it.

IN MY JAMMIES

2 January 2001

I’m sitting here in the nice warm pajamas I got for Christmas last year. It’s 9 p.m. and it’s not that I’ve gotten ready for sleep early...I never got out of them at all today. Somehow the day just got away from me.

First, I "slept in." For me, that means sleeping until 6 a.m. Shortly after I woke up, I got the coffee made just in time for Peggy and me to have our morning IM chat, following which I chatted with Steve for awhile too (I think I’ve become an IM-junkie!).

I got my journal entry written and uploaded for the day, and then I decided that I wanted to start a database of diary titles and topics. Sometimes I find that I have very strong feelings about something or other and will write about it--once or twice I’ve actually posted it--only to discover that I felt strongly about that particular thing a few months back and wrote about it then as well. So I decided I’d make a database of titles and subjects. (What can I say...it was busy work).

I got so engrossed in working on the database that it was after noon before I realized I still was in night clothes.

Somewhere in the process of making the database, I got the idea to do "Mom’s Refrigerator Door," so I took a lot of photos of things on my refrigerator in preparation for using the photos over the coming weeks.

I was about to take a shower and get dressed for real when the phone rang. It was a friend I hadn’t spoken to in about six months. It was good to hear from her again, but I hadn’t really expected to spend two hours on the phone! Oh we had a lovely time catching up on who is doing what with and to whom, trashing a bunch of people, and comparing notes on how we feel about the recent election and other political issues. That part was fun, but my ears were sore by the time we finally decided that the conversation had run its course.

By this time I had passed the point of no return and decided that it was silly getting out of night clothes for just a couple of hours.

Good thing, too, because about then the pop-up alarm on the computer reminded me that it was time for a TLS (Steve’s group) conference. I hadn’t been to one in a long time, so I logged on (my word does it take a long time to connect to Yahoo’s chat room!). Steve was just leaving and only one other person was there (it was geriatric night for the TLS list). We decided to move the chat to IM, since I hate the Yahoo board.

As we said goodbye, the alarm reminded me it was time for the David Gerrold group conference. I blew that one off. I’d already had more than my share of live chat for the day.

We were approaching time to think about dinner. I hauled out the turkey carcass and stripped it of all the rest of the meat (it was a 24 lb turkey--we’ve been eating it all week). I have a big bowl left for a casserole later this week, and I used a bunch, along with the last of the mashed potatoes from Christmas to make a casserole for tonight.

Now dinner is over, I’ve watched Richard Simmons on A&E’s Biography (OK--I admit I’m embarrassed to admit that, but it was a fascinating biography) and soon it will be time to go back to sleep and start the whole cycle over again.

I’ve spent the entire day in my pajamas, and nearly the entire day here at the computer. I wonder if this is setting a precedent for the rest of the year...

Probably.
