BARI
The headings don’t only refer to the city, but to the province as well.  It’s important to note that Italian provinces have the same names as their capitals.  Bari is a city on the « heel » of  Italy, and most Europeans think of it as just a port to the Balkans.  What a shame, because it is the nicest city to do a « passeggiata » (walk) at night in southern Italy.
Alberobello (Beautiful Tree) is a small town located south of Bari, one hour away by bus or train.  All the houses in this town have cone roofs (called trulli) as you can see in this picture.  These trulli have no mortar holding the stones together.  Too bad there is no panoramic view.
St. Nicholas of Bari Cathedral.  The resting place of Santa Claus.  He rests here even though he lived in the Middle East (not the North Pole!) his whole life.  The locals were so jealous that he was buried in Muslim land that they decided to organize a Crusade to bring him to rest here.  There was a wedding that Wednesday (!)…so it was not a good idea to go inside and see the tomb.
A street in Old Bari.  I took this one because there was noone in the alley, however normally there are tons of people in this Persian maze.  I came here during the day, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking here at night.
