GASPÉSIE |
Gaspésie is a peninsula north of New Brunswick that stretches over into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The climate here is like the Maritimes, where it is warmer in the winter but cooler in the summer than Montreal or Calgary. |
Gaspé is the largest city with about 20 000 people, and these statues represent when Jacques Cartier stopped in this spot during his explorations in the 16th century before continung up the St. Lawrence. |
Percé Rock. I took the picture a little far to show all the rock, with its little passageway on the side. Great fish to eat here, but Percé is so small that once you see the rock, you leave..... |
The main cathedral in Gaspé. The ugliest church I've ever seen. Locals told me that it was first designed with stone walls but the project went overbudget, so it was finished in wood! |
