Well, where do I start? Here goes: I was born the 3rd daughter of 8 children to a coal miner and wife.I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers.I love them all dearly,We are all truly blessed to come from a large family and to have known our grandparents and great grandparents. Our family picnics are like a church social,I have lost count of just how many there are.OK more about me,I don't rememember a whole lot about my early childhood but I have heard it was rough, outside plumbing, carrying water for chores etc.At the age of two I contacted polio,I was isolated in a hospital for months behind glass no one could have contact with me.Even though I don't remember it I know it had to be hard on my mom and dad.At the age of (5 )I remember moving closer to town where there was plumbing, schools with more than 1 room and a giant movie screen right behind our house. We could see the screen but we couldn't hear it.At the age of 6 we moved even closer to the town in which I still live. Here I attended Justice grade school. My childhood was normal to me even though I was in the hospital just about every summer having surgeries. We played hide and seek, tin can alley etc. We were happy kids. I received my strenght from my mom.She is the one I remember always being there for me.She made all our clothes, and though we didn't have a lot we didn't really know it.This didn't cause me to love my Dad any less, He was just so busy trying to provide for 8 kids. The best gift she gave me was to make all 8 of us go to church every time the doors were open.My teen age years were a little harder.I attended Logan Central Junior High.We were not allowed to date,go to parties, wear slacks, shorts and all the things other teenagers got to do.After graduation from Logan Senior High. I got a job as a switchboard operator and desk clerk at Aracoma Hotel and left home to stay with an older sister who was married.I met my husband while I was working as a switchboard operator at the hotel. In he walked,He was a city policeman,To this day I don't know if it was the uniform or him LOL. but after 34 years we are still together.By no means has it been a perfect marriage. We have been married 3 times to each other.CRAZY I am sure he would not care for me to say it was because of alcohol. I would not advise any one to stay in a marrige like this but in my case my prayers have been answered.Even though we are battling a very serious illness (end stage liver disease)together. We have had 3 wonderful years to get to know each other.(I am still trusting God for a miracle) We have a beautiful daughter who is a school teacher but quit when she gave us our first grandson.I always desired to have a boy. I call him my Sunshine,I rocked for hours singing you are my sunshine,It seemed to soothe him so now that's what I call him..and now I am blessed with a second gradson I call him My Peanut he is little and petite and so precious to me, like my daughter, she only weighed 4lbs 8oz.My daughter,son-in-law and gradsons are the 4 people in my life other than God that keeps me hanging on. Update on my Husband: 03/24/2004 It has now been 3 yrs. since he was on hospice. He is still fighting and growing daily in his faith. |
