Madhyavaata Mutt( Nadyenthaadi)

In the following three shlokas, Shri Vaadiraaja prays Lord Vedavyasa at Madhyavaata Mutt.  This place (not known to many) is in between Udupi and Subrahmanya. For many years, Shri Acharya used to travel between Udupi and Subrahmanya, to  do pooja  at both places same day. Shri Acharya used to halt at this place during noon, which is in the middle enroute( so the same Madhyavaata). Shri Acharya had brought eight Vedavyasa Saligramas from Badaria and  has installed one in this, for his pooja & rituals in the noon. We can even now see the place where Acharya used to  perform Pooja. Other holy spots here are the  Gautama Kunda and Gada Theertha ( Details about these two are not known to me). This mutt is 3 Km away from Kavalakatte, which is on the MANGALORE - CHARMADI bus route.

Chintamani Narashimha Kshetra:

'Chintmani Narashimha temple' is near  'Kade Shivalaya' which is six Km away from 'Uppinangady' on the Mangalore -Bangalore highway. According to local  history, when Lord Shankara was performing tapas, he was troubled by 64000  bad devils called "Yoginis". Then Lord Narashimha jumped upfrom Pathaala  (netherworld) and saved Lord Shankar, destroying all bad elements.
Also Shandilya Muni worshiped LaxmiNarashimha Saligrama given by Lord Brahma in this  place and Lord Nasashimha appeared here to bless the saint. According to Skaandha Purana, Veerabhahu, King of Mangalapura(Mangalore), who had his arms cut, built the temple here, worshiped Lord and got back his arms. This place is junction (sangama) of 'Netravathi' and 'Kumaradhara' rivers. This place is known as 'Dakshina Kashi' and it is believed that there are 1000 'shivalinga' here along the river bed. So Shri Vaadiraaja travelled along the river on a platain leaf to reach the main temple. In the main temple, Shri Vaadiraaja installed  Lord Mukyaprana  on right side and 'Bhootha rajaru' on the left side. Here only the priest can go inside the temple. Shri Sodhe pontiff has special previlage of going inside and performing 'mangalarathi'.
Shri Vaadiraaja Theertha prays Lord Narashimha by desribing his posture and action

Nethravathi River:
Nethravathi is the biggest river in the Mangalore district. The river takes it s birth from Varaha Hills (Kudhuremukha) and joins Arabian Sea near Mangalore. According to scriptures, the river is born from the eyes of Lord Varaha. Shri Vaadhiraaja Theertha explains
here the greatness of the river in two slokas. Normally  tears comes out when the person is weeping, but tears  comes out when the person is happy too. Shri Vaadhiraaja Theertha explains here that  Nethravathi is cheerful tears of Lord as the river is always cool and
holy dip in the river enhances the devotion.

The  conflux of Nethravathi & Kumaradhara rivers:
The river Kumaradhara starts from Kumara hills and joins Netravathi near Uppinangadi  in Mangalore - Bangalore route. By the side of this holy sangam there is a 'sahasralingeshwar'(Thousand Lings) temple. This place is also known as ' Gayapadha", "Dhakshina Kashi"
etc. Shri Vaadhiraaja Theertha explians Sangameshwar Kshethra in one shloka and Kumaradhara river in two shloks.

Subrahmanya Kshetha:

Subrahmanya, one of the famous 'Skandha Kshethra', is at a distance of 166 Km from udupi and can be reached by Bus. The Mangalore-Bangalore train has got stop at Subrahmanya Road Station. Shri Vishnu Theertha, the younger brother of Sri Acharya and the first saint of present Sode Mutt, established Subrahmanya Mutt.  Shri Vishnu Theertha is still living, doing penance in the cave in the 'KumaraPravatha' near Subrahmanya. The Subrahmannya Mutt and Subrahmanya temple are in the same complex seperated by a wall. There is  a 'Dharpana Theertha' in front of the temple and people enter the temple after a holy dip in the Dharpana Theertha. Subrahmanya is situated inside dense forest in the bottom of the Sahyachala (Western Ghats) and people become immensely
peaceful by a mere sight of the place and its surroundings. Sri Vaadhiraaja Theertha praises the glory of Lord Subrahmanya Swamy in six shlokas  bringing out various  factors related to Lord Subrahmanya and his place.

There is a rule in Sankrit Grammer that whenever  two conflicting things occur, the latest one is to be followed. Shri Vaadhiraaja
Theertha  quotes that here.  Even if some one had done a big crime like killing, he may be blessed by Lord when  the guilty repents for that and surrenders to Lord, though it is not justified for those who got killed.

Very near to Subramahnya there is a place called Adi Subrahmnya where there is a mud cave. Sri Subrahmanya is said to be living there in the cobra form. Shri Vaadhiraaja Theertha says that though Skandha mata says Subrahmanya is Supreme, it is not to deceive the wicked people. Lord Subrahmanya himself is great devotee of Vishnu like his father LordShankar.

Shri Vishnu Theertha who is first saint of Subrahmanya Mut, is still doing peanance at Kumara Parvatha. After many years, when the other religions becomes too powerful and people following Tatvavadha gets very much confused and deteriorated, Shri Vishnu Theertha is going come back to reestablish the Tathvavada. Shri Acharya has written many Granthas on the copper foil and put in the ground at a place called SEthuthila" (Khadthila). Shri Vishnu Theertha is going to  take out  all those Granthas written By Shri Acharya and re estalablish  Tathvavada.

But the samputa is too strong to open,

Explanation: As told earlier, Shri Vishnu Theertha, younger brother of Shri Acharya, was the first saint of Subramanya mutt and he went to "Sahya Parvath" to do penance along with the samputa which he was worshipping.Later his disciple Shri Aniruddha Theertha prayed for the samputa for his worshipping. Then he was indicated in the dream about the arrival of Samputa through Kumaradhara river. Accordinlgy next day the samputa came floating along the Kumaradhara river along with a mirror.(That is Darpana Theertha. Darpana means mirror) That mirror was given to the Subrahmanya temple as per the indications of the dream. Then the king Ballalaraya was upset with this, and he snatched the samputa and tried to open it  by all means including stamping by an
elephant.  The people who tried to open and the elephant too died due to skin burns. The king also suffered a lot and then he surroundered to the swamiji.         Normaly for all "saligrama" daily abhisheka and pooja are to be done. But for this samputa only external pooja with offering of flower and sandal is done. The samputa can be only opened by Shri Vishnu Theertha who will come down when the followers of Tatvavada get into lot of problems and trouble by other people, after many years.

Payasvini River:
Shri Vadiraja Theertha explains the holyness of Payasvini river. It is one of the big rivers in Kerala. Shri Acharya has mentioned that Sri
Mahalaxmi will incanate as Durga here after 36,000 thousand years in Kaliyuga. It is mentioned in Sumadhwa Vijaya (5/35) also that when  Shri Acharya  visited Payasvini river, he prayed Goddess.

Shri Vadiraaja Theerta comes from Udupi towards south upto this place, and then moves back  and proceeds towards north of Udupi on the west coast. The first nearest  holy place towards north of Udupi is Suvarnariver.

Suvarna river originates from  Varahagiri.( Major rivers like Thunga, Bhadra, Netravathi also originate from Varaha Parvatha.) Suvarna flows through Vedhachala or Vedagiri near Manipal and moves along the north side of Kalyanapura. The drinking water to udupi town is from this river. A holy bath in this river especially on  Krishnangara Chaturdhashi ( On the 14th day of Krishna Paksha when it falls on Tuesday) is considered to burn all sins and one can here the sound of sins getting burnt.

Shri Vadiraja Theertha's  'Theertha Prabhandhaa' is an extra ordinary  work. Shri Vadiraja went around the whole India, visited all the holy    places, rivers, mountains, visualized God in those places and praised him through sthothra, bringing out the special attributes in those   places. This book exhibits the Shri Vaadiraja's unparalleled devotion  and mastery in literature. This book is of great help to us and we can  visit all the places through this book and get blessed by God.

Kumbhasi Kshethra:

Kumbhasi is the first holy place on the north of Udupi at a distance of  30 Km. This is also known as Goutham Kshethra, Gajapuri. The birthplace  of Shri Vadiraja, "Hoovinakere" is just 5 Km away from Kumbhasi. The  old house where Shri Vaadiraja's parents lived was renovated few years   back and is known as 'Hoovinakere Mutt'. There is a small temple with   Shri Vaadiraja's icon in ‘Gowri gadde’, the paddy field, where Shri  Vadiraaja was actually born. Every year the rice from this field is    being used for 'Shri Vaadiraja Aradhana' at Sode. His holiness Shri    Vishwothama Theertha swamiji of Sode Mutt, celebrates 'Shri Vadiraja     Jayanthi', every year on Maagha Suddha dwadashi (Feb 17th, 2000) in     this place. This year, marking the 400th year of Shri Vadiraaja's   Vrandavana pravesh, special programs are arranged for 4 days grand    celebration.

Long back, when there a big famine and people were suffering without    water and food, sage Goutham prayed Ganaga Devi and with her divine   blessing, he sheltered all the Brahmins and other sages in this place.   Hence this place is also known as 'Goutham Kshetra' nd it was very  famous for a long time for all sacred activities of learning Veda,  performing homa etc.

During dwapara Yuga a demon by name ‘Kumbhasura’ lived here and   used to trouble all people. When Shri Bhimasena visited this place, all    sages requested him  to kill this demon. But Kumbasura had a boon by   Shri Shiva that he would get half the power of his enemy. When Shri   Bhimasena was thinking about this, he heard words by heaven, suggesting    placing a sword in the trunk of an elephant and worshipping that.  According Shri Bhimasen worshipped Lord Viswambara (form of Shri Hari   having head of elephant) in the elephant and then killed Kumbhasura. It    is also said that Shri Bheemasena killed Kumbhasura with the blessing   of Shri Mahaganapathi.

There is a beautiful temple of Shri MahaGanapathi, on the top of a     small hill, known as ‘Gajagiri’ (Ane gudde) and this place is also    known as 'Gajapura'. Shri Mahaganapathi is very famous  for readily    fulfilling the desires of the devotees and lots of  people from far off   place come here to offer prayers to Shri Ganapathi. It is also said   that the idol of Ganapathi is growing year by year, and surely the   popularity too wide spreading. Recently H.H. Sri Vishwesha Theertha   Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt inaugurated a big dining room, capable of    accommodating 1000 people. Pictures indicating the history of the place   are carved on the walls of the temple. The car festival of this temple   is held during first week of December.  One can enjoy the beautiful    scene of sunset from this place.

There is another very rare and sacred spot, Shri Harihara temple, at    the bottom of the hill, built over a water tank. In the Garbha Gruha,      there is a shivalinga and a small water spring. The local story says    that when all sages requested Lord Shankar to protect them from the   hands of Kumbasura, Lord Shankar assured them that Shri Hari and Shri    Hara would come out in that place together. All sages were asked to    keep two vessels covered in a sacred place and wait for a good time.
But the sages, in a hurry, opened the vessel to find nothing. When they  again prayed Lord, they were assured that Shri Bhimasen would come to   that place and kill the demon.

There is a small well inside the temple. The water in this small well    is crystal clear and is always full throughout the year. Devotees take   this water as 'theerhta'. It is said that Sage Goutham brought Ganga to   this well. This temple is also renovated recently. There is a small    Shri SuryaNarayana Temple and Shri ChannaKeshava temple nearby. It is   also said that there is a cave called 'yama guha' and the surrounding   park is also known as 'Madhuvana'.

Shri Vageesh Theertha, guru of Shri Vadiraaja used to live in this    place. The old and abandoned Mutt where Shri Vadiraja stayed with his  Guru for sometime is reconstructed this year by H.H. Shri Viswoththama    Theetha of Sode Mutt, this year.  There are two 'vrandavana' at this   place belonging to two yathis of the Sode Mutt lineage. Though this   place is well connected to the highway, it has maintained the serenity   and peacefulness and by going around this place, devotees enjoy unique   pleasure.

Shri Vadiraja explains the glory of this place in two shlokas.
