The most important job of the President is to carry out the nation's laws. In the constitution, Article II states that the President has the responsibility to "take care that the laws are faithfully executed. "
The process of passing laws is very detailed and complex. There are many minor things that the Executive branch has to consider when passing a law. If congress want to pass a law about cosmetics listing their ingredients, the Executive branch must decide on little details, like which products are consitered to be cosmetics.
Enforcing laws is taken care of by many agencies and executive branch employees. This is known as a bureaucracy. The head of this bureaucracy is the President during his role as chief executive.
Executive order- a rule or command the President issues that has the force of law. Dccision any agency of the executive branch makes can also be considered executive orders. They have the force of a law.
Most executive orders are issued when the country is in a time of crisis.
The President has the power to appoint officials. These officials should be reliable, and have the same views as the president. Some officials that the President can appoint are embassadors, judges, heads of government agencies, and members of cabinet.
