The Chief Diplomat

Powers of the President as
            "Chief Diplomat"

Where do our Ambassadors get sent to?

The United States only sends those to countries to those countries where the U.S. recognizes, or accepts, the legal existence of the government.  If the government of a certain country is thought to hold power illegally, the President can refuse to recognize that governmnet & that country can't send an ambassador to the United States.

What is an Amabassador???

An ambassador is an official representative of a countries government. for example,  the United States sends ambassadors to other countries like the United Kingdom and France.

Who gives the "o.k." to appoint the         ambassadors???

The president must have approval of the sentate before appointing an ambassador.

The Presidents power to make Treaties...

Being the Chief Diplomat, the constitution gives the president the power to make treaties.  A treaty is a formal agreement between two countries.  However, to do this, the senate must approve the treaty by 2/3 vote.  If this happens, it can be signed into a law.  The president can also make an executive agreement. . .

Executive Agreements...

An executive agreement has the force of law, but does not require senate approval.
