Chief Diplomat

The Chief Diplomat is a very important role taken by the President.  The Chief Diplomat has many responsibilities that is used in favor of the peoples welfare.  This job is key to keeping good relations between country to country.

The President has two primary jobs as Chief Diplomat:
1. Appoint Ambassadors                                                                                                  George Bush with Russian President Putin
2. Making treaties

Even though the ambassador is chosen by the President, the choice still has to be approved by the Senate.  When the President appoints ambassadors, he is choosing a representative of the United States. These ambassadors will be sent to a different country around the world.  If a country has an illeagal government then the President does not have to reconginze that country.  Just recently President George Bush choose a new ambassador for Canada. Another key job of the Chief Diplomat is the making of treaties.  When the leader makes a treaty he/she is making a formal agreement between two or more countrys.  After a leader has made a treaty it can only become official until the approval of the Senate. Sometimes the President bypasses the Senate by making an  executive agreement.  An executive agrrement is an agreement between the President and the leader of another country.
