the death penalty IS racially biased the death penalty IS NOT racially biased

The above links each show a
different side of the argument for racial inequality in capital punishment
- while the first gives information that the death penalty is flawed
through ethnic discrimination, the second emphasizes the inequality
in the numbers of crimes committed by different races, and that in actuality
no minority discrimination is present in the system. Each attempts to
prove its point with graphs and statistics taken from numerous court
cases and studies, and provides an alternate viewpoint.

Through our research, we have concluded that the death penalty is racially biased, and its supposed "equality" is often based on the idea that minorities, especially blacks, are particularly prone to crimes and aggravating factors that provoke the implementation of capital punishment. It is a fact that more white successfully appeal their cases than other ethnic groups. It is our opinion that it may be that the death penalty itself is free from bias, but the trials and the judicial system leading to execution are flawed by racial stereotyping and the discrimination of jury members, judges, and in some cases attorneys.
