In 2000 the total domestic crude oil field production was apporximately 5,822,000 barrels per day.  This was a decrease from 1999 when the average amount of barrels produced per day was approximately 5,881,000; a 59,000 barrell difference.  The Top Crude oil-producing states are Texas, Alaska, California, Louisiana and Oklahoma. 
      World crude oil reserves are estimated at over one trillion barrels.  Of this quantity, 11 OPEC Member Countries hold more than 75%.
    By 2001 the US was using approximately 7 billion barrels of crude oil per day, and the estimated world wide consumption was 28.2 billion barrels per year.

                     The world wide technically recoverable amount of crude oil (the amount that experts are certain they can extract) is estimated at 1,000 billion barrels. (Encarta Encyclopedia.)  Of this amount, about 73 billion barrels are located in North America.  Although cost wise, only a small amount can be extracted from North America. More than half of the accesible reserves are located in the Middle East.
