Saturday June 11th brought the new CCF Pioneers' first proper CCF experience in the form of an overnight exercise and field training at Ballykinler! 120 cadets set off for BTC on Saturday afternoon and arrived just in time to get some dinner in the cookhouse. They were then sent off into the woods, armed with a poncho and some green string to make their home for the night! After setting up camp, there were a few lessons including Ballista Building, Weapon Cleaning and Command Tasks - then there was the compo cooking lesson and everyone got stuck into their sausage and beans and lancashire hotpot!
Then after a long and noisy night for the officers who were trying to get some sleep (!), it was Reveille at 5am for a dawn attack where the Pioneers got to watch an attack taking place on the enemy - complete with flares and smoke grenades! The weekend then ended with a round robbin of activities on Sunday morning - the 75m Range, Command Training, Tent Pitching, learning knots and even a game of volleyball!
