name: Jillian Kelley, but I go by Birdie.

age: born 12 July 1883, which makes me, uh, 19 this year, 1902.

looks: 5'8", long straight auburn hair, dark green eyes, fairly skinny but really strong, dark blue pants, a gray shirt that's not tucked into my pants all the time, a regular man's undershirt that frequently seems too big for me, a brown leather belt instead of suspenders (I hate suspenders. I used to have them, and they drove me nuts), and a pair of black boots. I usually wear my hair back in a ponytail with a ribbon or something, but sometimes I leave it down or only pull half of it back. It's so long that it gets in my way sometimes, but I wouldn't dream of cutting it. I like it this long. I can do stuff with it. If I had a real reason to anyway.

Why am I in Queens? Lilah's like my great aunt or something. She pretty much raised my mother, and, after my parents died, she raised me, too. Besides, who else would run the newsgirls in Queens? Okay, so I twisted her arm to get her here. So hold it against me. She's a great lady, and I brought her here for all of us.

Do I gamble? Does Action Monroe play craps? Course I gamble. I wouldn't be a newsie if I didn't gamble and get smashed half the time. Well, I can hold my liquor with the best of them, but I have been known to get drunk every so often. My favorite game is Five Card Straight, but I'm one of the best at Billiards. Someone else holds the title, but I still think I can beat him at it, so long as I don't get distracted...

Do I have a boyfried? Nope. The leader of the Queens boys, Mac, and I are real good friends, but we're not dating. I suppose you could say that we're best friends. He's a good guy, Italian and all, so girls are always trying to get him for a date, but he usually turns them down. As for me, sure, lots of guys would ask me, but I'm happy by myself for now.

Do you need to know anything else about me? Well, not really. I'm a natural born leader as Mac says. If there weren't any newsgirls in Queens, he figures I could easily take his place as leader of the boys. I wouldn't know. I never tried, but I was second in command for a while, until I left, that is. As for other stuff, I've got a lot of pride. Anything else, well, don't ask about my family. If you do, I'm liable to either hurt you something awful or hurt someone else. It's just a warning. It just hits too close when you do. Well, that's all you need to know at the moment.
