| Toad in the hole Serves  3
 
 Ingredients
 250g./ ½ lb. sausages15g. /½ oz.  dripping or lard
 100g/4oz plain flour
 ½ level teaspoon salt
 1 egg
 250 ml/ ½ milk
 Method
   Liqht the oven, Gas 7, 220'c, Put the shelf near the top of the oven.
 Put the sausages into a large shallow tin or dish. Add the fat and place in the oven.
 Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl. Drop the egg into the centre of the flour. Add a litte milk and beat well until smooth.
 Add the rest of the milk a little at a time and beat well.
 When the fat in the tin is really hot and has a faint haze over it, pour the batter into the tin.
 Bake for about 40 minutes until well risen and golden brown.
Serve with freshly cooked vegetables.
