THE LOS ANGELES TIMES | ||||||||||
Hello fans of BHI! I'm writing you from the boring city of Los Angeles. Boring? Yep, it's a very boring city! It may come as a surprise to most of you but LA is not an entertaining city. Every day I wonder, how this entertainment capital of the world contain very little actual entertainment? |

It's not just the entertainment that's a problem here, it's a lack of community and connectedness. I have come to the conclusion that I would raise my future kids (G-d willing) only in New York. There are many more opportunities for the kids there. There are various programs available, more choices in schooling and just a bigger Jewish community!
As an optimist, unfortunately, I don't see too many positive sides of LA. Yes, the weather's always bright and sunny, and the birds chirp... but when you're used to big dirty Brooklyn, it is difficult to adjust to life in this bright sunny world! You may be wondering what I mean. Who wouldn't enjoy living in a sunny happy place? For me, a happy place is one that contains friends and people I enjoy spending time with. There are not too many of them here. It's very difficult to meet someone here with whom I can actually hang out with outside of work or school. Everyone in LA is very closed in, remaining only within their own clique. If they are not, then they are not true LAers. I've noticed that many Jewish singles have a hard time finding the "right one" in LA. If they do find someone, it is usually someone from Israel or from New York - isn't that interesting? And you thought it's hard in New York! |

Many of you have probably heard complaints that New Yorkers are very mean. Trust me, whoever is complaining has not been to LA. Because people here are very closed up, they become very self-centered. True, New Yorkers push and shove - especially in those crowded subways - but hey, at least you're surrounded by people. Here, you're surrounded by cars ( a lot of them!), sitting in traffic all day, every hour.
Well, that's my report on the famous (boring!) city of LA! More next time. Hopefully then I'll have something "entertaining" to say! But for now I have to stick it out. So enjoy NY...trust me!
