| First of all, I am very happy to still be a part of the BHI family. When I was in attendance I don’t think I realized how much I would miss the whole spirit and atmosphere of BHI. After graduation in 2000, I enrolled in Stony Brook University and moved out to Long Island. The transition was a lot harder than I expected. Talk about culture shock! I hate to admit it, but I was not able to deal with the stress and pressure and after two months I called my mom and informed her that I was coming home for good. Fortunately for me, my parents were very supportive of my return, considering they didn’t want me to leave in the first place. After that I attended Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus for three wonderful years. | |||||||||||||

| I studied biology and was fortunate to get a volunteer position in one of the labs in my university researching breast cancer. (No, we didn’t find a cure :) ) College was great fun and a lot of work, you really sweat your grades when you're paying a crazy amount of money for the class. I've recently graduated and was accepted into the Biology Masters program at NYU (yey, it's me and the Olsen Twins fresh our of rehab. ) This summer I interned at CCNY dissecting bugs. I'm not kidding. We've been searching for a more effective and less toxic pesticide. It's complicated, to be honest and I don’t understand some of it still, but pretending and nodding your head does get you a long way. But for now my path looks hopeful. I would encourage any person, especially women, to enter this field. Women are greatly under-represented in sciences and there are many programs aimed at women in biological sciences. And the scientific community does need more Jewish people :) I'm still not married, but good things come to those who wait. That sums up my personal life :) I think of BHI often. Many people I met who attended public schools ask me how I managed to survive and how I could go to a religion-oriented school and still be a scientist. I tell them all the same thing: BHI was the most fun I've had up to date. It obviously didn’t hinder my college application, it probably did the exact opposite, and it gave me a strong understanding of friendship and family. Most of all I remember the plays we put on and the moments when the class would burst into spontaneous song. I still remember most and I hum them to myself until someone very annoyed asks me to stop. To my alumnae I want to say that I miss all of you, even if you don’t think that I do. I remember everyone and hope that this site will promote communication between us. Remember, have fun and everything else will follow! |
