| LIFE POST BHI
I graduated from Beer Hagolah in 2004. Although it has been two years since I’ve last put on a green checker box "Xmas tree" skirt, I feel that I am still very much part of the whole BHI family and atmosphere. Since graduation, there have been many changes in my life. I spent my first year out of school in Ma’alot Seminary, here in Brooklyn. Ma’alot is an amazing seminary with great Rabbeim and teachers, who have really helped me grow and learn on a deeper level. I wanted to go to seminary to grow more in my yiddeshkeit and continue where I was heading. My seminary year has not only taught me a lot of halacha and hashkafa, but it also engrained in me a lot of important lessons about life. Aside for seminary, I attended and will continue to attend the Flatbush division of Touro College. I decided to attend Touro instead of another college because I wanted a religious atmosphere that wasn't drastically different from BHI. Obviously, college is different from high school and the people in it are different, but it is definitely a good place to be on a daily basis. This year I am working in Mesores Bais Yaakov as a pre-1A assistant teacher and B"H it’s wonderful! The kids are adorable, the atmosphere is great, and the people are really nice and caring. At times, like any job, it can get tough – between the gluing, cutting, and pasting, you also have to be a patient and understanding morah. But if you like working with children, and if you realize your responsibility in education, then it’s great and very rewarding at the end of the day. In college, I’m majoring in Psychology and Education because I do love working with kids and I want to spend my college career working towards the goal of becoming a good teacher. I am not sure where my goal will take me, but for now I’ll work on achieving it to the best of my ability. BHI MEMORIES The most vivid memory I have of BHI is that unbelievable connection and feeling of security that I had throughout the years; the excitement of being around people with whom you can have a great time without feeling pressured by life. I wish that I had enjoyed those carefree times more than I did. I wish I could hold onto our shabbatons, chagigas, and even class time with friends and relive those moments once more. RECENT DEVELOPMENTS I got engaged about a month ago, and I will be IM"H getting married in the very near future. ON A FINAL NOTE I feel like no experience, no lesson, no inspirational speech, or extracurricular activity went without having an impact on my life, and BHI (meaning everyone involved in it) has great merit in whatever I will hopefully achieve in the future. |
