Joseph Gary Petersen passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct 23, 2001. Gary fought to the very end an intense and cour-ageous battle with Adult Resp-iratory Distress Syndrome due to chronic lung disease. We miss him dearly. Gary was born September 29, 1943 to Joseph Hyrum and Ann Mable Kagie Petersen. Gary loved spending time with his granddaughter Caitlin, and surprising her with little gifts. He loved spending hours at a time sitting on the back porch and shooting the breeze with his family. He loved sharing his knowledge of all things, including cooking, gardening, wildlife, and nature. He loved doing things for his family, friends, and anyone who came into contact with him. Gary loved shopping, football, fishing, the outdoors and his dog Chism. He is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Petersen and his parents. Gary served his country proudly by enlisting in the Army. He served from 1962 - 1965 ranking as a Private and was stationed in Korea for 1 1/2 years of duty. He is survived by his two sons, Scott Poulsen of No. Salt Lake, Tom (Cherie) Poulsen, and his granddaughter, Caitlin all of Bountiful. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Kathy Bartlett of Salt Lake City; brothers, Dewey (Pat) Petersen of Centerville; Gus (Sandy) Petersen of Layton; Farrell (Karen) Petersen of St. George; sisters, Karen (Warner) Poppleton, currently serving an LDS mission in India; Marlene (Steve) Camden of Riverton. Gary had many nieces and nephews and we wish to thank them all for their continued love and support during his stay at the VA Hospital. Gary had many friends who were dear to him, including friends who have thought of him as their own dad over the years. We want to thank the VA medical staff at the SICU and the MICU where Gary showed tremendous strength and courage, he proved to us all he was not going to go down without a fight, and we love him for that in life, as well as in death. Graveside services will be held, Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
