John C. Reid Obituary
A service is scheduled for John Charles Reid, 47, who died Friday in a traffic accident
near Ducor. The Rev. Carl Hoppman of Trinity Lutheran Church of Porterville will
officiate.
Mr. Reid was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and resided at Porterville for 16 years,
where he was a teacher at Porterville College. He was a member of the California
Teachers Association (CTA) and served as president of the Kern Community District
chapter for 2 ½ years and had recently been elected president for 1990-91. He also
served on the negotiations team for many years.
He received the We Honor Ours award from the State CTA for his efforts in
supporting fellow teachers.
He was also being a member of Kiwanis and having served as Division Secretary
from 1984-85 and Treasurer from 1986-87. He served on the Porterville Public Library
Board of Trustees from 1983-85 and was the campaign manager for Nore Pruitt when he
ran for city councilman.
Survivors include aunts and uncles; his adoptive family; and nephew and niece.

Two are killed in area crashes
Two people died Friday in accidents on highways at both ends of Tulare County.
A Porterville man, John Charles Reid, was killed in an accident at 11:08 p.m.
Friday on Highway 65 near the Avenue 65 intersection.
Two vehicles, a southbound tractor-trailer rig driven by Jack Dohn of Kingsburg
and the north bound automobile driven by Reid were involved.
According to a California Highway Patrol report, the "northbound (vehicle was)
was weaving in and out of traffic, (and) swerved into the southbound lane in front of a
southbound big rig. Both vehicles met headlight to headlight. The driver (of the
automobile) was dead at the scene."
Reid was reportedly a teacher at Porterville College.
