Bennie Moy Mangus 5/11/27 ~ 1/08/04

BOUNTIFUL - Bennie Moy Mangus age 76, known and loved by people all over the world, returned to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 8, 2004. The 12th of 13 children, born to Walter and Rose Mangus. He was born May 11, 1927 in Byron, Wyoming and moved to Bountiful, Utah at age 11. He attended Stoker Elementary, South Davis Junior High School, and graduated from Davis High School. He graduated from Utah State University in 1951 in education. Later he earned a masters degree in educational administration from the University of Nevada, taught, coached and was a administrator at Bountiful High School for 32 years. During his tenure at Bountiful High School his 1969 basketball team won the state championship and he was named the coach of the year for Utah high school basketball. He was known for his friendship and humble demeanor among his family and friends. He was grateful for his military experiences in the Merchant Marines, Army Air Corps, and the US Air Force where he retired as a full colonel. In 1951 he married Nola Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were blessed with four children. Craig (Nadine), Brent (Brenda), Kirk (Janice), Megan (William) Barth. He is survived by his wife and children, 10 grandchildren, Dax (Tristie), Matt, Dustin, Meesha, Coy, Van, Amy (Claus), Scott, Neal, Sophie and two great-grandchildren, older brother Harry of West Valley and numerous nieces and nephews. Bennie was always active in the LDS church serving in many positions. He was a temple worker for over 15 years. He was a great example to all, continually demonstrating his personal characteristics to be generous, kind, pure in heart, patient, happy, friendly and a willing worker who loved and enjoyed his family and many friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bountiful 37th Ward Chapel, 1500 North 400 East. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Monday morning from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the church prior to services.
