Stephen Briggs Shurtliff
April 20,1943 to July 18, 2004

Stephen Briggs Shurtliff 1943 ~ 2004 Stephen Briggs Shurtliff returned to his Heavenly home and family on Sunday, July 18, 2004 of complications following surgery. Born April 20, 1943, he was the only son of Vella Briggs and Fred Agren Shurtliff, who predeceased him. Stephen graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and worked for years as a journeyman welder. He served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Texas Mission. He married Marion Vander Meide in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had two sons and one daughter. They later divorced. Stephen always enjoyed people, and would strike up a conversation with ease, even with strangers. Despite his many adversities, he maintained a good disposition and sense of humor. He valiantly "endured to the end." He loved his family, and treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, as well as his sisters and their families. Children were always drawn to him, and he was good with them. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dogs, especially Lacey, whom he taught many tricks. Stephen has been an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many different capacities. Most recently he has served as ward clerk in the Bountiful Ninth Ward. The ward members have been especially kind to help Stephen in many different capacities over the years, for which the family is most grateful. Stephen is survived by his two sons, Michael (Michelle) and Brian; and his daughter, Cindy Lyn (John) Hunsaker; one grandson and four granddaughters. He is also survived by his four sisters, Freda (Scott) Eldon, Jo Ann (Robert) Farrer, Carolyn (Norman) Faldmo, and Nancy (Harold) Reynolds, as well as 21 nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful Ninth Ward Chapel, 585 East Center Street. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Thursday morning from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
