On Friday, over 20 classmates cheered the Redmen to a 19-10 victory over the Clyde Flyers at BAF Stadium. Athletic Director Brian Schubert arranged for reserved seating for those in attendance, ironically located two rows behind former BHS principal Charles Palsa, who was honored to pose for a photo with us. After the game, classmates headed to the Sports Hut and the home of George and Becky Tuttamore, a frequent gathering spot during our high school years, as the Tuttamores have three daughters in the Class of 1996, Krista, Kara, and Samantha.
On Saturday, over 10 classmates and their families gathered for a family potluck and barbeque at Robert Peters Park. BHS faculty member Paul Lieber joined us for lunch, and afterwards led us on a guided tour of the high school along with faculty member Daryl Gross. BHS has changed dramatically in 10 years, and Mr. Lieber and Mr. Gross were able to introduce us to the renovated library, gymnasium, administrative offices, and arts wing, and informed us about the Halls of Excellence and Athletic Hall of Fame programs that have been established since our graduation in 1996. Mr. Gross also surprised us with a blast from the past, treating us to a viewing of his “first day of class” video in which individuals record their names to help him more quickly become familiar with his new students. The video is 14 years old, and produced a good laugh from everyone in attendance!
Saturday evening saw over 35 classmates gather in the upstairs private restaurant and patio area of TGI Friday’s in Sandusky for an informal dinner and reunion. We cheered the OSU Buckeyes on to victory while catching up with old friends. A 50/50 fundraisr benefiting the Class of ’96 fund raised over $225, with half going to lucky winner Andy Skinn. It was announced that Stacy (Streeter) Mayer has volunteered to coordinate the next reunion, to be held in 2011. Many of us ended the evening at the Sports Hut, where we vowed not to wait five more long years before getting together again!
