9.22 - Rose and me at Punahele Grill
Tammy doesn't normally seem this short. keke
I've had the most amazing weekend. Especially when you compare it to the tumultuous weekend last week. (I dunno why but I've been liking the word 'tumultuous' all day)

Friday I was relatively busy with work, nothing big, but not exactly bored. Then I get an email from Rose to call her to arrange something to do. I call her and we decide to meet up at the Metreon at 5:30. It was SO much fun finally hanging out with just Rose. It was a really casual and low key night which made it even better.

I managed to get a lot of my Christmas shopping done in Union Square and it was really nice talking with Rose. Sometimes I wonder if she and George will work out becuase it doesn't seem like she's totally into the relationship, but at least they're not engaged anymore so now they can slow down and focus more on the relationship than the future.

We ended up at the Cheescake Factory but the wait was at least an hour just to get a pager so we just left our name and shopped around and then decided on IHOP. I hadn't eaten there since I was little! But apparently, the IHOP by the Metreon closes at 3pm and a bum sleeps in the doorway. Damn. So we booked it all the way back to The Cheesecake Factory and managed to get a pager and a table soon after. The guy who sat us was really cute! woohoo. hehe I had eaten a big lunch so I wasn't very hungry, but how could I NOT eat a full meal after hearing so much hype about the place. I had baja fish tacos and they were pretty good but I took most of it home. I didn't have cheesecake for dessert though. Yeah, I know, I must be a retard since it WAS the CHEESECAKE Factory and all, but I bought a Tiramisu Cheescake for the dinner I was throwing tonight, so I figgered I'd try something else. I should've just gotten the ice cream but I opted for the tiramisu. After gorging myself with food, I got thoroughly sick and felt like such a glutton. Mental Note: Do not try to eat more when you know you probably get sick.

It was a satisfying night and I was really happy. Then I came home and remembered that I had to marinate the chicken for dinner tonight. I was up till about 2 just doing that. Fortunately, I had Tammy, my "favorite assistant number only" to help. =)

Too bad I woke up too late to meet my cousins. Erg. My bad. I feel bad cuz I woke up half an hour after I was supposed to meet Mitchell at the Civic Center BART. We were to have lunch with Stanton, our other cousin. Well, technically they're my mom's cousins so that would make them my 2nd cousins? Anyhoo, I've never knowingly met Stanton so I was really looking forward to today's lunch. Oops. Well, hopefully it'll happen next weekend...that is, if I don't get so fucked up at Rose's housewarming party Friday. keke

Its probably a good thing I didn't go have lunch tho. Tonight we had people over for dinner and so I had to clean the house - especially my room! - and get wrapping paper, soybeans, and then wrap Won's gift as I won't see her before she leaves for Hawaii. The lucky bastard will be there for about 2 weeks! errr.

I'm proud to say that my room is now positively clean and gorgeous. hmmm..or well, maybe not that far, but its just soo clean! I actually have a big space to do stuff in the middle of my room. heh. I now understand my mom's anal fixation with cleaning anything and everything in the house whenever she has dinner parties. At least I didn't get all evil and demanding like her though. But I did sweep the stairs free of leaves. Quite a feat if you ask me! *beaming*

Now, we've had people over for dinner before, but never set at least a week in advance and never on this scale. At least 7 people were supposed to be eating, maybe more, so we had to be prepared. The "party" even though it was really just a dinner, had originally started out for our friend Judy, whom Tammy and I met in Korea, but she is much too busy these days so she couldnt' come. Boohar. Maybe next month after she returns from London. Anyway, we planned to cook Mochiko Chicken, Spring rolls, soybeans, and rice. And then I also had the Tiramisu Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. It was perfect!

Everything went off without a hitch (although we almost forgot to cook the rice) but the downside was that we only ended up with 6 people eating and then the three guests all had other parties to attend, leaving us quite early. I was quite disappointed, especially since I could've invited a few other people, but its okay. At least now I feel like I've passed the test and I can now move on to the next step, a larger gathering...maybe even a party. Woo. Wouldn't that be fun. Mental Note: Have more chairs when inviting more people.

So now I'm contently digesting my nice meal and I'm just so happy. Ahhh. I think tomorrow I'm going to do a little shopping on Telegraph. Maybe I'll find something for my sister. What does one do when she asks for "clothes that they don't have here in Hawaii"? errr. So annoying. And then what does one get an S.O.'s parents for Christmas? I've never done it before and well, I sorta want to but then I'm also afraid that it'll seem weird since I can't give it to them in person. I know Tammy chose wine, but what do I do when Grant's parents are Mormon and don't drink? At least I don't think they do. Grant says his mom doesn't really eat chocolate so there goes Ghiradelli or Godiva. erg. I was thinking a gc for dinner or brunch at the Mariposa in Neiman Marcus, but really, gc's are so lazy and ghetto sometimes. Its so unbecoming...or at least, that's how I'm starting to feel about it. damn me for changing. Which reminds me, while I was shopping with Rose, I kept wanting to go into stores like Guess, JCrew, etc., as opposed to ones like ummm..Wet Seal? I was telling Rose that my tastes have been getting more costly since I've been here and then Rose goes "Gosh Maria, you're getting all high maintenance." har. I don't really think so but I can't help it. I don't want to be ghetto forever. sheesh. So yes, any suggestions on what to get Grant's parents would be very much appreciated.

I had better go finish my Christmas cards. I also should get crackin on that admissions essay. aiyah. So much to do, so little time! But ahhh...I love Christmas...and the food that comes along with the holidays. Gosh I feel like such a glutton now.

<3 always,
mar

p.s. Tammy, its not that I don't like being called 'Mar' by not so close people. None of my family calls me it actually. In fact, I don't know if they even know I have an online sn. Its just, well, it seems kinda weird to hear 'Mar' in real life as opposed to online chatting and such. But hey, if anyone REALLY wants to call me 'Mar' in person, then go right ahead. I'll think you're weird at first, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. Isn't that right Min? keke

p.p.s. Tammy, my roommate & "favorite assistant number only," is NOT the same as Tammy, the uber cool "online journal cult advocate." Hope I don't confuse any of you. Maybe I should make up a name for one of them? *evil laugh*
