Many memories with Grant, Kekoa, and Tanya during the summer

So the end of the year has come around again. It seems like it was just yesterday that everyone was running around crying apocalyptic Y2K predictions and that we were celebrating the biggest new years of all. I still can't believe how much has happened in the past year and how fast it all went by. This has definitely been my biggest and most life changing years of all.

I started the new year with a special someone and hoped for continued happiness and love. By the time February came around we had grown apart, me stressing over my last semester and him evolving in a new person. I learned a lot from that experience and I know I never want to go through it again.

February also brought a new chapter in my life, The Asian Journalist. It has so transformed how I view the world. hehe. Kinda funny. I never thought a collection of journals could have such an effect on me. It sort of made me feel like I fit in somewhere at last...even as minor as it is. I definitely met a lot of new people through it though. And to think, if I hadn't joined, I wouldn't have met Min or Lester, or Dave, or Clara, or Tammy, or Gerard for that matter. hehe. Such cool people. =)

March found me still recovering from February, but in the process I was becomeing more involved in KSA. It was definitely a good thing. ^_^

April - Kind of a blur. I just remember trying to finish up school, still recovering, and KSA. heh. *rolling eyes*

In May came GRADUATION! Woohoo! I finished my BA in Math in 4 years [no summer school] and then proceeded to bum around the rest of the month. Yeah, it was definitely a nice month. ;P My sister also graduated and I was really, truely proud of her. Oh yes, and we mustn't forget my first [and only] trip to Oceans. hehe. That was fun shit.

Gosh, June was extreme fun. My final year of Summer fun began, I experienced my first rave in five years [what a difference a little pill makes. lol], and then I tried to knock stuff off my infamous "list." My first trek up Diamond Head crater was cool! =)

I started to fall for Grant in July. I guess our constant togetherness caused it, but gosh, he was cute! =) Grant, Tanya, and Kekoa helped me cross things off my list and we definitely became closer because of all the late night outings. It was really nice to do that again. I had thought my life would never be fun again, but they proved me wrong and I will always love them for that. I finally could move on from my past hurt and start living again.

With August brought my new love, new life, and new home. It was hard leaving Grant behind when I moved up here to Berkeley, but the distance has definitely strengthened our relationship. I don't think I would've learned this much about him, or me for that matter, if I hadn't left. That's not to say that it isn't hard and that it doesn't hurt, but I know that I now appreciate him more and love him more than I ever could have. =) ...Oh yeah, and I also met Min and Lester for the first time in August and my life has never been the same. haha

September was another blur just filled with work and adjusting to my new home. And we mustn't forget the good roommate and evil roommate. Oh how I've learned from them! heh

I finally regained internet/regular journal access in October. Whew! never again will I be away. hah! You're stuck with me now. =) Other than that, same old same old. Just went to work..every friggen day...and tried to study ever so hard for the GRE [haha yeah right].

The bane of my existence for 3 months, the GRE, finally came in November and I was all too happy to see it go away. hehe. I did pretty well and all I can hope is that it helps me in getting into Cal. I also went back home to Hawaii for Thanksgiving and got to see my sweetie again. It was heavenly bliss. ^_^

And finally, December was filled with mixed emotions. It started with the stress of my CBEST (nothing to be stressed over for sure!) and my grad school app deadline. It continued with a sort of sadness over Rose at her party and then more sadness at Christmas without my family and Grant. But Christmas with the good roommie and her family proved to be the next best thing and for them I am forever grateful. I miss the good roommie.

And now, as we prepare to ring in the new millenium, I look back mostly with happiness at the events of the past year. I am grateful to have gained so much more than I have lost. I've gained new friends, a new love, a new life, and a new self. For these I will always be thankful. I wish you all a prosperous and happy new year. May you be blessed with many new year's blessings! Sae Hae Bok Mani Badeuseyo!

love always,
Maria
