I. THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

1. Definition of an attribute: An attribute is a trait belonging to God by which He is distinguished or identified..
* So when we look at His attributes we will be looking at certain features or traits that are associated with the identity of God.


2. Description of an attribute:

1)Holiness of God: It's meaning...
* Holiness, as related to God, means self affirming purity
* God eternally wills and maintains His own moral excellence



2)Holiness of God: It's mention in Scripture....
* Isaiah 41:14, 16, 20; Isaiah 43:3, 14, 15; Isaiah 45:11; Isaiah 48:17; I Samuel 2:2; Psalm 89:18; Psalm 99:5; Psalm 99:9; Psalm 145:17



3) Holiness of God: It's many displays....
It displays itself in:

(1) His inhabitance - Isaiah 57:15
(2) His influence - (When He touches something or it is set aside for him, His influence makes it Holy.)
* Holy Garments - Exodus 28:2
* Holy Place - Exodus 28:29
* Holy Things and Gifts - Exodus 28:36-38
* Holy Crown - Exodus 29:6
* Holy Altar - Exodus 29:36, 37
* Holy Ointment and Annointing Oil - Exodus 30:5
* Holy People - Leviticus 39:25-29



4) Holiness of God: Making It Yours
* By faith plus nothing in the sacrifice of Christ - Hebrews 13:12; I Corinthians 1:30, 31
He is our Sanctification and He sets us apart unto Holiness, having obtained our redemption through His precious blood - Ephesians 1:7

** There are three stages of holiness or sanctification.

(1) Positional holiness- In God's eyes, He sees the finished product, and can view us as such - Hebrews 10:14

(2) Progressive holiness - Deals with our everyday walk in which we seek to progress in holiness with less and less giving into the flesh. - II Corinthians 7:1

(3) Perfect holiness - When we are changed by Christ at His coming - I John 3:2



5)Holiness: Manifesting it
* By the fruit of our conduct - I Thessalonians 3:13, 4:7: Ephesians 1:4; I Peter 1:15, 16

* By the full expression of Christ through us - Galatians 2:20
