Mother Earth and the Goddess of Poetry , Lucille Clifton knows how to coddle a student and shake her hips at the same time. The author of many luminous poetry books, she has a keen ear for the epiphanic passage and is one of America's finest social protest poets. Clifton is Distinguished Professor of Humanities at St. Mary's College in Maryland.
