Marudhamalai Though traditionally not counted among the six padai veedu, Marudhamalai is one of the hoiliest shrines of Muruga. (Some schools of thought include Marudhamali among the padai veedu). The mountain, part of the Western Ghats, is abounded with marudham trees, hence the name Marudhamalai. It is also called Marundhumalai, a hill of medicines: for the hill is surrounded by rich medicinal herbs. The temple is situated on a hill about 500 feet, amidst lush green surroundings and a moderate climate. It is about 15 km from Coimbatore. It is said that the divine cow Kama Dhenu herself grazed at the lush greenery of the hill and gods themselves assemble to offer their prayers to Lord Muruga. |
