Summary: The Avengers battle on three fronts to quell the surge of attacks by the Presence and various factions vying for power under Kang's impending rule. In China, Warbird leads a squadron against the Deviants who have trapped this squad of Avengers undeground. Faced with a vast legion of Deviant soldiers, Carol takes a strategic gamble and challenges the Deviant's leader, Dulpus to single combat for command of his army. Trapped by his own code of honor, Dulpus accepts the challenge to "save face" in front of his troops. Dulpus sends forth Glomm, a nine-foot tall purple glob of Deviant muscle as his chosen champion. Warbird takes to the air and attacks. Glomm, however, is not without tricks of his own. His pliable form allows him to easily evade Carol's attacks. He then uses it to engulf the Avenger in his gooey purple form. As Carol suffocates, she senses the source of Glomm's energy...his single organ. As she struggles against the black comfort of unconsciousness Warbird reaches for Glomm's internal organ and absorbs its energy, rendering the enormous Deviant unconscious. Victorious, Warbird is given command of the Deviant army by a shamed Dulpus.
