The Brood

The Brood are a vicious, insect-like alien race who use other sentients as the host bodies for their young. When the Brood came to Earth and started a conflict with the mutant X-Men, it led to one of biggest battles of the team's history. Travelling to outer space with the X-Men was Carol Danvers who had recently lost the super-powers that made her Ms. Marvel. When the Brood captured Carol, they were fascinated with her unique Kree/Human genetic structure. The malevolent aliens subjected Carol to excruciating genetic experiments. Carol was rescued from their clutches by her old friend, Logan better known as Wolverine! Together, the two managed to escape the Brood.

It soon became apparent that the Brood's toying with Carol's DNA had changed her dramatically. Transforming into a new and phenomenally powerful form, Carol realized that she had somehow been linked to a "white hole" and could draw on its power and energies. Dubbing herself Binary, Carol used her new cosmic powers to retaliate against the Brood. Binary's attack devestated the Brood homeworld and freed the X-Men from their influence. The Brood have sworn vengeance on Binary for this bitter and complete defeat.
