It's really no surprise that Carol became close friends with Raza Longknife, The Starjammers' surly cyborg. Both have military backgrounds, are prone to bouts of melacholy reflection and know the true meaning of loss. During her time with the Starjammers, Carol managed to break through Raza's aloof exterior. The two became friends and there was a definite hint of flirtation in their banter.
When Raza was blackmailed by the Kree into taking revenge on the Avengers for the fall of the Kree Empire to the Shi'ar, it brought him and the Starjammers to Earth. Carol had recently left the Starjammers following injuries she sustained saving Earth's sun and was recovering at Avengers Mansion. When Raza attacked and nearly killed the Black Knight, Carol insisted in getting involved. She clearly felt a loyalty to both teams and was determined to figure out what was going on. Raza readily admitted that he was being forced into this by the Kree, who had in their possession a necklace which had belonged to his son. Raza had believed his son to be dead but the Kree had promised information about his whereabouts. Carol destroyed the necklace, explaining to the Avengers that it was a Kree Memory Device and was responsible for Raza's actions. The two teams made peace and the Starjammers left Earth once again. Only Carol and Raza know that there is no such thing as a Kree Memory Device. Carol lied to the Avengers so that Raza might be free to seek his lost son.
