 WHAT IS 'CLICKER TRAINING'?

 WHAT IS 'CLICKER TRAINING'?
Clicker Training is a gentle, humane and exciting way to relate to your bird. You learn to play fun little games together. These games will improve your relationship regardless of how good or poor it has been. Because it uses reward as a teaching tool, your bird will love it! First discovered by behavioral scientists (animal behaviorists), clicker training has been successfully used by professional animal tamers and trainers for decades.

 WHAT IS 'BIRDCLICK'?
 WHAT IS 'BIRDCLICK'?
BirdClick introduced clicker training to the world of pet birds. THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED, FOLKS!
BirdClick is an email list for people who enjoy spending time with their birds and want to provide them with mental stimulation and learning experiences. Here, you will discover how to tame and train, as well as to address specific problem behaviors. Our birds are never forced or coerced to do anything. They participate joyfully as willing training partners by their own choice. List members include pet bird owners, parrot behaviorists, and avian rescuers as well as experienced, professional animal trainers. The tone of the list is friendly and supportive. It is our hope that through this effort, we will continue our education and enhance our enjoyment of our own companion birds while helping others come to understand and interact with their avian friends at a level much higher than they had previously imagined.
We discuss the principles and practical application of how birds learn. Using only kind
and gentle means, we modify problem behaviors (such as
screaming and biting, or
dislike of a family member), teach husbandry behaviors (such
as coming and going
politely from the cage, and cooperating with wing and nail trims). We can also teach
fun tricks just like the professionals. The real backbone of clicker training is called
operant conditioning. Once you learn about how behavior
works, you will have a
broad-based knowledge that will enable you to approach
behavior modification with
confidence, skill and success.

Why use clicker training rather than the 'traditional' approach?
