Origins 2004: Part 2 |
Moving on... So, we went to dinner, came back, and hooked up with the Demon group. Not wanting to game in a gaming room, we headed for my hotel room to experience the ruins of LA after the big quake (followers of the Demon: The Fallen continuity will know what I'm talking about). Pictures abound. |
Robin brought booze to bribe me with. |
Kylee left to LARP, after resisting Robin's evil charms. |

Various people lounging about in hotel and around the room. Pammit's character lost her mortal host and gained a new one during the game. |
Me with a Smirnoff Ice label on my head. I was not drunk. |
Folks playing Apples to Apples, Branden and Robin snogging. |
Laura following her drunken tryst with a stuffed panda. Oh, Laura. |
Eventually, that crew left and the rest of us went to sleep. Morning arrived sooner than I'd have liked, but it was Saturday, meaning I had only one remaining game to run: the finale of the Vampire: The Requiem game. Rather than find a game to play to fill the time, I went to the booth for a while (and snapped the picture below of Bunny dusting off the Dark Ages books) and then went and got lunch with Heather at this neat little hippie restaurant called Benevolence. En route, we saw folks handing out religious literature and talking on cell phones. |
The food was good. I don't normally go in for vegetarian fare, but I had been eating junk food since Wednesday, so the vitamins and lack of flesh did me a world of good. We headed back to the con, and wandered a bit before my last game. I caught Kylee fending off Imperial troops in the dealer's room and someone's kid on the floor being cute. |
In the actual gaming room, Mike Lee (the Demon developer) and his wife Janet wandered at one point, meaning I stole their souls with my camera. Also there was a guy with a kitten in the room. I haven't figured that one out.... The game itself went quite well, but then, by that time I had the best of the best of the best in terms of players, so they all fell into it pretty naturally. Some good role-playing as they confronted the villain of the scenario, and then some combat as they set him on fire. Pic below, quotes here. |
So after that, Chris and I had a Vampire: The Masquerade game to play. We also roped Andrea into it. It turned out to be the same ST as the other Vampire game I played in, and this time, the pre-gens included (you guessed it) a little girl Malkavian. Sigh. I played a Gangrel this time. So did Chris. We had pretty much identical stats. Sigh. We killed the Malk in pretty short order. I don't truck with Malks not being functional in the group. The player complained that she was just playing her character. Hey, me too. The game itself didn't go as well. We wasted a lot of time killing that Malk (but I felt a lot better without someone who enjoyed pulling out the pins on grendades and stickin' back in for fun). We achieved the goal of the game. My character turned Sabbat. Keen. Pic at left, quotes here. |
So that pretty much did it for Saturday. We went to sleep (or tried; both Andrea and Chris snore and not even kicking them helps much) and in the morning, it was time for...oooh....Clay-o-Rama! I played this game first at Tol-Con, a gaming con in my home town of Toledo, a long time ago. Basically, you make a monster out of Play-Doh and make them fight. The rules are available for free download (just Goodle the word clayorama), and I highly recommend it. Also, I've instituted a rule about not role-playing on the last day of a con; GMs are fried by that point. So I went to play with clay. I made a Horrible Tentacled Monster (below left). Other highlights include the undead schnauzer, Mr. Pinchy the Pink Scorpion, the blue Hungry Maw, Anna Nicole Smith (no, really), the purple blob, and the Big White Fish. |

Well, I'd love to say I was Clay Battler Supreme, but I was in fact the first to die. At right is all that remains of the Horror... |
So, that's Origins for ya. This is, in fact my last con of the year, because we've got a baby on the way and we need to save time and money. Next year, however, I'll be running games, takin' pictures, and enjoying the sleep deprivation once again! |
