Navajo Parade EVER!
Hello there Prayer Warriors, First of all, sorry for the ‘book’, but there was so much going on these last two weeks that I really don’t even know where to begin. So I broke it into categories for those of you who don’t want to read our loooong boring updates. haha *Biggest Navajo Nation Parade ever! (photo) *The twins Grandma beat up with a baseball bat. *Someone stabbed at Yei-be-chai. *Brandon beat up and left for dead. *Well, the 94th Annual Shiprock Navajo Nation Fair is officially over. Their theme was “Honoring the Dine’ belief in Ke” Which is one of their Gods. Its something about harmony and living in peace with the family ect. Ugh! Anyway, it was the biggest turn out EVER. We had over 150,000 last year and they said that this year was much bigger. Well, you did not have to tell me that. When they passed out tracts during the parade on Saturday it was so crowded it looked and smelled like NYC. I mean, the lights, the sounds, the crowds….you could not even drive through. There was the smell of gas fumes and fry bread in the air. Haha It was truly a site to behold! Bobby and I were thinking of inviting groups out at this time to see how it really is. Because, trust me…you would have to see it to believe it. Here is a couple photos’ of the parade. This is truly a drunk fest. I mean, sure you have your sweet families coming to visit old friends and ride the Ferris wheel, but mostly it’s an excuse to party all weekend. With the Navajo Nation Pageant going on, and the biggest draw…the "YEI-BE-CHAI" ceremony, there ends up being a lot of fighting and drinking going on. People even camp out in tents right on the side of the highway. *During the first day of the fair. (Which happens to be within walking distance of our house) there was a huge fight across the street. One of the twins (16 and pregnant) came running across our yard screaming to call the police. When they finally arrived, they had to take their elderly grandmother to the hospital. The aunt, who was already drunk, had beaten her up with a baseball bat. Ahhh, yes…I knew it was going to be an interesting week. *Later on Saturday after the parade was over, the satanic ceremony (the Yei-be-chai) was going strong. Rachel and some of her friends witnessed a 5-car pile up with a police car being the one who caused it. He was hurrying to the scene of a crime and later we found out that it was because a man (22) was stabbed 7 times during the Yei-be-chai and died. *Many of you might also remember Brandon, who lives across the street from us, and practically LIVES at our house? Well, he was jumped Sunday night at the fair. 6 kids, about 17 to 18 years old started beating him up...when a man tried to jump in and stop them they threw him in the trunk of the car and the man threw himself on top of it to try to stop them...but they sped away. *About a week ago Jimmy comes home and tells me that he witnessed to a man who works with him at the Bamboo. His name is Thompson and he is in his 30’s. He just got out of jail for murdering someone and this was his first job since he got out. Jimmy witnessed to him several times. He finally got him to the point that he admitted that he was a sinner and needed the Lord. But when Jimmy asked him if he wanted to pray and ask the Lord to save him he said “not here, around everyone…I don't know, I'll think about it…maybe later.” So he just let him go. When Jimmy went back to work on Monday they pulled him aside and told him that Thompson had overdosed that weekend and that he was dead. We do not know if he ever did what Jimmy told him to do…but I am proud of my son for telling him the truth. He even preached about it on Sunday. It’s a hard, hard thing to see someone reject Christ and then die. A very very hard thing. Please pray for my son. I am so proud of him. *Bobby and the boys took Bro. Bryan with them over the mountain last weekend to the Hopi Reservation. There is a church there that asked Bobby to preach. They are breaking away from the Southern Baptist Church and wanted Bobby to preach on their sins. They even told them that the Hopi are idol worshippers so he would have some ammunition. Hahaha They invited several other denominations to come and hear the preaching. Bro. Harold Nobel was also there to back him up. He ripped and roared and told them the truth of the Gospel. He said that several people looked like they were seething, but the alters were full during the invitation. One man even approached my son David after the services and said “please tell your dad that I got saved tonight.” Amen and Amen!!! *We have had a VERY interesting
incident the other night. heehee Ok, where to start. Well, Bobby went to
pick up David from work. (half a mile away) It was a night of adrenaline. haha So glad there were no fatalities. One ambulance worker said "we HAVE to know if that’s everyone" because the Grandma was
incoherent...so Bobby had to crawl back into the van to look under clothes
and stuff to see if there were any more babies in the there. He said that it
was a very sick feeling looking for dead people...but praise the Lord they
were all accounted for. *Bobby got a call today that said the Juvenile Detention and Rehabilitation Center will be opening back up with new people in charge. Praise the Lord they still want him to come on Mondays. The only thing that will change for him is the time he gets to come. 8:00pm instead of 7:00. That’s very good news. *I am also happy to tell you that we had two saved on Sunday. One in the Jail, and one 16-year-old boy named Isaiah, at the church that evening. Amen! *We had a supporting church call us from Oklahoma and tell us that someone donated a 1992 Astro Van to the church. I am very excited. We have some friends looking into it for us, to see how it runs and if it needs tags ect…they will get back with us soon. Pray that its exactly what we need, our van is jam packed on Sundays. Yeah….which is really a good problem to have right?! <happy happy happy> *For all of you who have called and wrote about Rachel’s stalker situation, (and by the way, I have NEVER gotten so many e-mails back…I’m so happy to know ya’ll are actually reading these. Haha) Well, we DID get her pepper spray…and thanks for the advice. We told her what to do, and yes, she has had someone meeting up with her to drive back with her at night. She has been really praying about this job situation and believes that it might be time to get another job closer to home. We believe something is going to open up for her right in town later this week, so please pray with us about it. It might be better for her in the long run. Thank you so much for your concern, I am glad you all love her like we do. *Bobby has been helping Pastor Don Chitty’s team this year in football. David and Jimmy have been playing. They have only lost one game, and won two. They are having such a good time. I wanted to post a picture of my handsome guys in their new jerseys. (mommy bragging rights…heehee) David is a junior this year (17) and plays quarter back. Jimmy (15) is a freshman starter (oh yeah, he’s goooood!) and plays receiver and center. (a moment of reverent silence please for the proud momma….thank you very much. Haha) They play for Open Bible Christian Academy in the Northern New Mexico Christian League.
I am so happy things are calming down a little. We have already had 3 whole calm days in a row. <contented sigh> Its good…a girl needs a break sometimes. My jury duty was even canceled two weeks in a row. Two more weeks to go and it will be over. Yeah me! Thanks so much for all your prayers and loving kindness to our family. We love you all very much, and we are so glad your part of our team here. Maybe we should have a ceremony for you…give you a native name and the whole nine yards. Ham it up a little. Hahaha Talk to you all soon! Sorry this update was so long….I tend to run on, don’t I? <grins> Your Sister in Christ, Mrs. Micki and the whole Harjo Tribe This Harjo Informal Update is put out by Bro. Bobby Harjo’s wife, Micki.
