Buffalo, Bison Dr. Myrix J. Crouch of Union wrote in 1894:
"I remember to have heard old men speak of herds of buffalo gathering and making their way along a ridge beginning in the western portion of Gallatin County and extending unbroken to the Big Bone Lick, thus avoiding the steep river and creek hills.
