The Bass Sax in Bb, is a wonderful horn!
Despite its size and stature, it is an agile low-register instrument. I have used it in a sax section by writing parts for it , and also combining it with the Bass Trombone, or String Bass to write some really great contrapuntal, and organ-pedal parts!
The depth it gives to the sax section is amazing, especially when the section is as follows:
This behind a vocalist is a FINE sound!
One can also use it for bebop type lines, and fast moving passages without worrying about the passages being in-time!
