Vivien Thomas - A Lake Providence Success Story

Lake Providence is a small town in East Carroll Parish situated on the Mississippi River in the northeast corner of Louisiana. This area of the Mississippi Delta is rich in history and culture but seems to have missed out on the prosperity that other parts of the United States have enjoyed.

With this site, I hope to expose the struggles of a rural, southern town whose days of wealth and growth have long since passed, even with the advantages of historical interests and beautiful natural resources.  The town of my parents' generation is vastly different than the Lake Providence of today.  As the citizens and town officials come together to face the problems that are holding the town back, only time will tell if it is possible to pull the town out of the cycle of violence and poverty.

Lake Providence by air.
