ABOUT ME & MY FRIENDS

My name is Greg. I was born in Budapest, Hungary, Central Europe.

My hands I'm a fan of The Police since 1986 and Sting is my all-time favourite singer since I've heard the song 'Englishman In New York' for the very first time on a Hungarian radio station in 1988. I saw Sting live in the unforgettable Thursday evening of 23 May 1996 on his Budapest gig. This picture was taken from the concert video, where it is clearly seen that I stood in the middle of the crowd in a white shirt and always kept clapping. So that was my first photo together with Sting ;) "These are my hands..."(When The Angels Fall, 1991)

2 Stings At first I met the Internet in June 1996 and it was a great experience because I've never used it before. Since I've visited a lot of Sting pages and you can find my favorites at my links. The idea of making an own Sting-related website was popped up on 6 October 1996 and it was created with the help of my friend, Chris and my younger brother, Daniel. I got my e-mail account at the college on 5 November 1996 and then a friend of mine, Dániel Marczisovszky, put the first edition of SYNCHRONIsite to the server of the Technical University of Budapest on 19 December 1996. My site was growing quickly and finally moved to GeoCities on 4 March 1997.

Greg & Sting I met Sting personally in front of the Hotel Corvinus Kempinski in Budapest on 11 June 2000. It has been an amazing moment in my life when and I managed to shake his hand and give him a very special present, a so called Fanbook. The idea of making a Fanbook popped up by a friend of mine when we received the first news about Sting’s concert in February 2000 in Budapest, Hungary. Unfortunately the show was postponed because the original venue, Budapest Sports Hall, was totally burnt down in a devastating fire in December 1999, which truly depressed every Hungarian fan. So we were really enthusiastic and looked forward to the re-scheduled gig at Kisstadion in June 2000. All of the messages were sent to Sting via e-mail between December 1999 and June 2000. The Fanbook contained several touching stories, funny comments and short but lovely greetings, some of them in Italian, Spanish, French and Hungarian too. Interestingly enough, the youngest fan who wrote a message was 8 years old from Italy and the oldest one was 50 years old from Australia. During our encounter, Sting was really nice, very friendly and he gave us a lot of autographs. We also met trumpeter Chris Botti and drummer Manu Katché. We really wanted Sting to find our Fanbook exciting and enjoyable to read. We tried to make a pleasant surprise for him and sincerely hoped that he would remember it for a long time. Two months later I received an e-mail from Jen, who lives in the US and she also sent a message to Sting through our Fanbook. I have never dreamt that Sting would send us a feedback.

My other interests:

Besides Sting and The Police I also prefer the music of Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Donald Fagen, George Gershwin, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Garrett, Branford Marsalis, Hiram Bullock, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Richard Bona, John Scofield, John McLaughlin, Vinnie Colaiuta, Frank Zappa, Yellowjackets, Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul, Weather Report and other great fusion jazz bands.

Unfortunately, I don't play any instrument but here you can listen to my very first attempt as a drummer. I was so impressed by the virtuosic play of Vinnie Colaiuta in Sting's version of 'Purple Haze' written by Jimi Hendrix that I downloaded a MIDI file from the Net and re-recorded the drum part by myself. Many thanks to the original composer. Enjoy it!
