The name of the man who first informed Clyde and I about the train
was Smith. Although he had helped us several times before, I never learned
whether 'Smith' was his first or last name.
Anyway, Smith told us that the ultimate haul was coming via Dome's
railway. Naturally, we couldn't resist. Doma trains were the easiest to rob.
So we decided to do it. After weeks of waiting, the day finally came...
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Perhaps earlier when I said that the day changed my life I was wrong. It
may have indirectly changed me, but it was Clyde whose demeanor was affected.
After we pulled off the job, Clyde felt he had to change his name. I
didn't see his reasoning, but I do remember his words...
"Great train robbers of the century... Shadow?"
It was those words that renamed and reformed Clyde as the man who would
eventually join with others to save the world. But I didn't know it then. How
could I?
Once Clyde... Shadow changed his name, he began acting differently. It
was almost as if he WAS a shadow, following me around. But the one time he
wasn't there led to the real incident that changed me.
