That's not just my opinion, but the consensus of just about every living jazz historian. I saw Louie live at the Tenthouse Theater North of Chicago in 1958 - what a great pe formance. My favorite period for his music is the 20's and 30's, but I enjoy him from any period. I have a large collection (over 400 LP's) of popular and jazz music from the 20's and 30's. I am moving into CD's now and am liquidating most of my LP col ection. Anyone interested in a list of what I have for sale, Emial me and I will send it to you. |

I have recently been listening to a taped CD of Armstrong with Duke Ellington (CD-The Complete Sessions), and it's cool. "Drop Me Off at Harlem" may have been written by Duke, I don't know, but I like it along with "It Don't Mean a T ing", "Black & Tan Fantasy," and "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me." I basically like Celtic (Scottish, Irish, Breton) folk/fiddle/pipe music and R.E.M., but certain kinds of jazz have great appeal, (Dixieland, big-band swing, and Stan Getz samba etc.) C rtainly, Louis Armstrong along with Duke Ellington are the 2 greatest jazz musicians of all time, although both had influence on more than just jazz. Good work on this page; the best way to appreciate music is to listen to all kinds.. . . I like the line in the favourite (are you in the UK?- no, Canada), song: "you can get red beans and rice in Harlem.. " I know Armstrong knew about the New Orleans variety, best in the world, and Mobile, Ala.
